Job Overview: As the Human Mobility Hub Director, you will be at the forefront of a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing the protection and assistance of people on the move in North Africa. Your responsibilities will encompass overall strategy, operations, and partnership management, ensuring that the pilot project is institutionalized effectively by the end of the designated period. You will lead a dynamic, multidisciplinary team and collaborate closely with the NRC MENA Regional Team to achieve these objectives. This position calls for a creative and strategic thinker capable of transforming ideas into actionable plans while nurturing collaboration and representing NRC as a principled humanitarian actor.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Human Mobility Hub Director will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: driving long-term sustainability planning with partners, which involves exploring pathways for project handover or continued growth; ensuring the high-quality implementation of partner-led projects and initiatives in areas such as education, legal assistance, and emergency response; promoting innovation, learning, and documentation across all operational areas; leading networking, representation, and advocacy efforts by convening diverse local and international stakeholders; overseeing an organizational review to identify replicable practices and models for NRC’s future engagement; and fostering a collaborative environment that encourages the sharing of ideas and best practices among team members and partners.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a relevant qualification at the master’s level in a pertinent field. A minimum of 7 years of relevant managerial experience is required, with a strong focus on innovation within the humanitarian or social good sector. This experience should include at least 5 years in a senior management or country director role. Extensive experience working with local actors is essential, as is the ability to lead diverse teams of technical experts. The candidate must be capable of representing the organization at a strategic level and demonstrate fluency in English, both written and verbal. Proficiency in French and Arabic is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have experience working in challenging access contexts and remote management, as well as experience in protracted displacement settings. An in-depth understanding of the North African context and the MENA region is also required.
Educational Background: The position requires a relevant master's degree in a field related to humanitarian work, social sciences, international relations, or a similar discipline. This educational background should provide the candidate with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to navigate the complexities of humanitarian operations and partnerships effectively.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 7 years of managerial experience in the humanitarian sector, with a strong emphasis on innovation and strategic leadership. This experience should include at least 5 years in a senior management role, such as a country director, where the candidate has demonstrated the ability to lead teams and manage complex projects in challenging environments. Experience working with local actors and in protracted displacement settings is crucial, as is the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and manage remote teams effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, with both written and verbal communication skills being essential. Knowledge of French and Arabic is considered advantageous, as it will facilitate communication with local partners and stakeholders in the region.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is up to December 2026, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. The duty station is located in Amman, Jordan, and the role may require approximately 40% travel to areas of operation.
