Established to address the urgent need for integrated climate and clean air solutions, the CCAC focuses on reducing emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as methane, black carbon, HFCs, and tropospheric ozone. The Coalition is unique in its approach, being the only international initiative dedicated to this cause. The CCAC is hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) at the Industry & Economy Division in Paris. As of October 2023, the CCAC team is also providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge, further enhancing its role in global environmental governance. The CCAC launched the 'Clean Air Flagship' for the period 2024 to 2026, aiming to mobilize resources and support for cleaner air initiatives, thereby improving public health and mitigating climate change. The Coalition operates globally, engaging with various stakeholders to promote effective air quality management and climate action.
Job Overview: The CCAC AQMx Air Quality Monitoring Expert will be responsible for developing two comprehensive Guidance packages (Stages 4 and 5) that will serve as essential resources for air quality managers. Each package will consist of approximately 5,000 words and will include a minimum of 30 supporting resources to enhance the guidance provided. The expert will build upon the existing Air Quality Monitoring Guidance developed in Stages 1, 2, and 3, ensuring that the new guidance is structured, actionable, and accessible. The role requires a deep understanding of air quality management practices and the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, practical steps for implementation. The expert will also engage with the AQMx Technical Advisory Group and other stakeholders to ensure that the guidance reflects the latest research and meets the needs of air quality managers worldwide. The final outputs will be launched on International Clean Air Day 2026, marking a significant milestone in the CCAC's efforts to improve air quality globally.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the CCAC AQMx Air Quality Monitoring Expert include:
Developing Stages 4 and 5 of the Air Quality Monitoring Guidance, ensuring it builds upon previous stages and provides a structured framework for air quality managers.
Breaking down the guidance into concrete, actionable steps that air quality managers can follow as they progress from Stage 3 to 4 and from Stage 4 to
Identifying and compiling a minimum of 30 supporting resources, including tools, models, databases, reports, and articles, to complement each step of the guidance.
Conducting consultations with the AQMx Technical Advisory Group and relevant partners to gather insights and ensure the guidance is informed by the latest research and best practices.
Ensuring consistency and cross-linkages with other areas of Air Quality Management Guidance.
Preparing a PowerPoint presentation that highlights key messages to support the launch of the guidance on International Clean Air Day 202
Submitting all deliverables electronically, including the guidance documents and presentation materials.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Masters-level university degree in a relevant field such as environmental management, technology, science, economics, public policy, or law. Additionally, a minimum of 4 years of professional or scientific experience related to air quality monitoring is required, with documented evidence provided in the CV. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in preparing reports on air quality monitoring, including a reference to at least one report authored or co-authored in the last three years. Experience in preparing and delivering presentations is also essential. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in air quality monitoring and experience working in developing countries, along with an understanding of diverse country contexts. The ability to produce clear, concise, and accessible scientific and technical reports for policymakers is crucial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Masters-level university degree in a subject directly relevant to the guidance being developed. This may encompass fields such as environmental management, technology, science, economics, public policy, public administration, or law. A strong academic foundation in these areas is essential to effectively contribute to the development of the Air Quality Monitoring Guidance.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of professional and/or scientific experience specifically related to air quality monitoring. This experience should be well-documented in the candidate's CV, showcasing a track record of relevant work in the field.
