Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in strengthening ICT support services within the UNICEF Uganda Country Office. This position involves providing first-line IT support, managing the helpdesk, and supporting conferencing and collaboration tools to enhance productivity and communication among staff. The incumbent will be responsible for addressing ICT support requests, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of virtual and hybrid meetings. The role also includes maintaining local network infrastructure, assisting in staff onboarding and offboarding, and supporting ICT training sessions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake various tasks, including serving as the first point of contact for ICT support requests via phone, email, or ticketing system. Responsibilities include providing timely support for hardware and software issues, troubleshooting connectivity and system performance problems, and maintaining an inventory of ICT equipment. The volunteer will also provide technical support for virtual meetings, manage audio-visual equipment for in-person events, and ensure the smooth operation of video conferencing systems. Additionally, the role involves maintaining local network infrastructure, conducting routine monitoring of the WAN, planning network changes, and assisting in onboarding and offboarding staff from an ICT perspective.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong technical skills in ICT support, including experience with hardware and software troubleshooting, familiarity with network administration, and proficiency in using conferencing tools. The ability to communicate effectively and provide excellent customer service is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
Educational Background: A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications in ICT support or network administration may also be beneficial.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience in providing IT support, preferably in a similar organizational context. Experience with helpdesk management and user support is highly desirable, along with familiarity with various operating systems and software applications.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly local languages spoken in Uganda.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is based in Kampala, Uganda, which is the national and commercial capital of the country, offering adequate medical and banking facilities, as well as a variety of food options. The living conditions are generally favorable, with access to electricity and water via the national grid.
