Job Overview: The Translator position at DRC is crucial for facilitating effective communication between national and international staff and the affected populations, which include individuals and communities in need of assistance. The role requires the translator to provide both written and oral translation services, ensuring that communication is clear, accurate, and sensitive to the needs of the people of concern. The translator will be expected to engage in various tasks, including providing interpretation during counseling sessions and meetings, translating documents, and participating in training sessions. Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Translator include:
Providing interpretation between national and international DRC staff and government officials as required.
Ensuring accurate interpretation during individual or group counseling sessions and meetings, adhering to principles of accuracy, confidentiality, and impartiality.
Acting in the best interests of the people of concern, ensuring their rights are respected during communication.
Delivering written translations of documents from Ukrainian and/or Russian into English and vice versa.
Participating in training sessions and interpreting training materials and communications.
Being prepared for field deployments as necessary.
Responding to urgent requests for interpretation as agreed with the line manager.
Performing any additional duties assigned by the line manager that support DRC's objectives and activities.
Ensuring compliance with the DRC Code of Conduct during all activities.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for the Translator position, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
A higher education degree in a relevant specialty or an equivalent professional qualification.
At least 1 year of work experience in a similar role or within international organizations.
Demonstrated stress resistance and a positive attitude towards tasks.
High professional ethics and a solid understanding of privacy policies.
Proficiency in written and spoken Ukrainian.
Advanced level proficiency in English, encompassing speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a higher education degree in a relevant field or an equivalent professional qualification that demonstrates their capability to perform the duties of the Translator role effectively. This educational background is essential for ensuring that the translator can accurately interpret and translate complex information and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience, particularly in roles that involve translation and interpretation within international organizations or similar settings. This experience is crucial for ensuring that the candidate is familiar with the nuances of communication in sensitive contexts and can handle the responsibilities of the role effectively.
Languages: Proficiency in written and spoken Ukrainian is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for communicating with the affected populations. Additional Notes: The Translator position is offered on a full-time basis with a contract length of 6 months, which may be extended based on performance and program funding. There is an initial probation period of 3 months. The position is based in Kyiv, and the start date is as soon as possible. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff.
