Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UNICEF have been active in Timor-Leste since 1999, focusing on various humanitarian and developmental initiatives. IOM's mission includes providing return and reintegration assistance to Timorese people affected by post-referendum violence, disarmament and reintegration of ex-combatants, and community stabilization programs. UNICEF's efforts are centered on ensuring the survival, education, and protection of children in Timor-Leste, working closely with government institutions and civil society to deliver essential services. Together, they aim to create a nurturing environment for children and adolescents, addressing critical issues such as health, education, and child protection.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is part of a remote communications team tasked with supporting a comprehensive information campaign aimed at raising awareness about trafficking and smuggling in Timor-Leste. This role involves collaborating with IOM and UNICEF to produce engaging content that will be used in a six-month communication campaign. The first month will focus on planning and content production, while the subsequent months will involve the rollout of the campaign materials. The volunteer will be responsible for creating animated awareness videos, storyboarding, editing, and ensuring that all content aligns with the campaign's themes and objectives. The ultimate goal is to empower communities and enhance their capacity to respond to trafficking and smuggling issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will have several key responsibilities, including:
  • Conceptualizing and producing at least five short animated awareness videos (30–60 seconds each) that align with the campaign themes.
  • Supporting the initial month with storyboarding and design preparation, followed by video production during the second and third months.
  • Editing and formatting videos for optimal performance on platforms like Facebook.
  • Creating tailored versions of short videos for different target audiences, including youth and border communities.
  • Adding subtitles in Tetum to ensure accessibility and inclusivity, with support from a translation volunteer.
  • Collaborating with other volunteers, such as writers and graphic designers, to maintain consistent storytelling across all campaign materials.
  • Preparing all project files, including raw renders and final versions, for handover to IOM and UNICEF.
  • Participating in biweekly coordination calls and adhering to IOM and UNICEF's communication and protection guidelines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess strong communication skills, creativity in video production, and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment. Familiarity with video editing software and experience in creating engaging content for social media platforms are essential. Additionally, volunteers should demonstrate a commitment to the values of IOM and UNICEF, including respect for diversity and a focus on child protection.

Educational Background:
While specific educational qualifications are not explicitly stated, a background in communications, media production, or a related field would be advantageous for this role. Knowledge of social behavior change communication strategies would also be beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires volunteers to have some experience in video production and editing, as well as familiarity with social media content creation. Previous experience working in a team-oriented environment, particularly in a remote setting, is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Tetum is highly desirable to ensure effective communication and accessibility of the campaign materials. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region would be considered a plus.

Additional Notes:
This is a remote volunteer position with a commitment of 12 weeks. The role is part of a collaborative effort between IOM and UNICEF, and volunteers will receive orientation on communication standards and access to campaign materials. The position is unpaid, but it offers valuable experience in humanitarian communications and the opportunity to contribute to important social issues in Timor-Leste.
