Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UNICEF have been operational in Timor-Leste since 1999, focusing on various humanitarian and developmental initiatives. IOM has been instrumental in providing return and reintegration assistance to Timorese individuals affected by the 1999 post-referendum violence, while UNICEF has been dedicated to ensuring the survival, learning, and protection of every child in the region. Both organizations work closely with government bodies, civil society, and local communities to enhance essential services and promote equity and resilience among vulnerable populations.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is part of a remote communications team aimed at supporting a comprehensive information campaign addressing trafficking and smuggling in Timor-Leste. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including the Media and Communications Officer and UNICEF’s Social Behaviour Change Focal Point, to produce content that will sustain a six-month communication campaign. The first month will be dedicated to planning and content production, followed by the rollout phase in the subsequent months. The volunteer will be responsible for translating and localizing campaign materials into Tetum, ensuring that the messaging is culturally relevant and clear, while also maintaining alignment with the campaign's objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will engage in several key activities: translating and localizing campaign materials such as social media posts, flyers, and scripts into Tetum; adapting language to reflect local idioms and communication norms; proofreading and cross-checking translated content within designed layouts or videos; coordinating with other volunteers, including writers and graphic designers, to ensure linguistic accuracy; attending biweekly coordination calls; and adhering to IOM and UNICEF communication standards throughout the process. The volunteer will also ensure that all outputs comply with communication and protection guidelines, particularly regarding the confidentiality of trafficking survivors and at-risk individuals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong language skills in both English and Tetum, with a proven ability to translate and localize content effectively. Familiarity with communication standards and practices in humanitarian contexts is preferred. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong attention to detail, the ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment, and a commitment to the values of IOM and UNICEF, particularly in relation to protecting vulnerable populations.

Educational Background:
A background in communications, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have experience or coursework related to translation, localization, or community engagement, particularly in contexts relevant to migration or child protection.

Experience:
While specific professional experience is not mandatory, any prior involvement in communications, translation, or community outreach initiatives will be considered an asset. Experience working in multicultural environments or with vulnerable populations is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in Tetum is mandatory, as the role requires translation and localization of materials. Proficiency in English is also essential for effective communication with the international team and understanding campaign objectives. Additional languages relevant to the local context may be advantageous but are not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a remote volunteer position for a duration of 12 weeks, with the potential for further engagement depending on the campaign's success. Volunteers will receive orientation on IOM and UNICEF communication standards and will have access to necessary campaign materials. The role is part-time, allowing flexibility in working hours, and is open to international applicants.
