Job Overview: The Programme Associate position at UN Women involves providing comprehensive support to the Programme Team in the development and implementation of effective programs that align with UN Women’s rules and regulations. The role includes contributing to research, financial management, and program implementation, ensuring that operational, administrative, and programmatic support is effectively delivered. The Programme Associate will work closely with various stakeholders, including operations, programme, and project staff at the Country Office (CO), Regional Office (RO), and UN Women Headquarters, to resolve complex finance-related issues and facilitate the exchange of information. This position is crucial for the successful execution of the Women, Peace and Security Project, which aims to enhance women's and girls' participation and leadership in peace and security processes in Mozambique, thereby transforming crises into opportunities for empowerment and resilience.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Associate will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: providing advanced administrative and logistical support for program formulation and management; assisting in the preparation of program work plans, budgets, and proposals; offering technical guidance to country offices and executing agencies on program delivery and reporting; coordinating audits of programs/projects and implementing audit recommendations; developing and updating standard operating procedures and guidelines; reviewing program data for the CO website; collecting and compiling data for various documents; managing financial aspects of the Programme Unit, including budget preparation, financial reporting, and maintaining internal expenditure control systems; overseeing logistical arrangements for meetings and events; preparing public information materials; liaising with high-level officials; and supporting resource mobilization efforts by preparing agreements and processing donor information. Additionally, the Programme Associate will facilitate knowledge sharing and training for office personnel and partners on program management and operations-related issues.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of secondary education, with a Bachelor’s degree in Gender, Social Sciences, or Administration being desirable. The role requires strong knowledge of program management, excellent financial and budgeting skills, and proficiency in IT. The ability to synthesize and present information clearly, administer administrative processes, and manage data and documents is essential. Candidates should demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity, along with core competencies such as awareness of gender issues, accountability, creative problem-solving, effective communication, and stakeholder engagement.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes the completion of secondary education as a minimum requirement. A Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Gender Studies, Social Sciences, or Administration is preferred and considered an asset for candidates applying for the Programme Associate role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in administration or program management/support. A minimum of 3 years of experience specifically addressing Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment issues is required. Experience in Women, Peace, and Security (WPS), Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE), or Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) is advantageous. Proven ability to build and manage partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including government bodies and civil society organizations, is essential. Familiarity with office software and experience in supporting a team are also required, along with experience in using modern web-based ERP systems, preferably Oracle Cloud.
Languages: Fluency in English and Portuguese is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of the local language, Sena, is considered an asset and may enhance communication and engagement with local communities.
