Job Overview: The (Senior) Investment Officer for the Asia & Pacific Regional Industry Climate Anchor within the IFC's Manufacturing, Agribusiness & Services (MAS) group is a pivotal role aimed at driving climate-related finance initiatives in the region. The ideal candidate is expected to have substantial investment experience specifically in climate finance within the MAS sectors. The responsibilities include identifying climate business investment opportunities, structuring climate investments, and designing innovative financing products that promote climate business. The role requires close collaboration with various teams within the organization to ensure that climate considerations are integrated into investment decisions and strategies. The candidate will report to the MAS Regional Upstream Advisory Manager and will be based in Singapore, playing a crucial role in advancing the IFC's climate agenda in the Asia & Pacific region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Asia & Pacific MAS Climate Anchor include:
Identifying new climate investment opportunities in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services sectors across the region, and selectively processing climate transactions.
Developing and promoting climate products, tools, and services, such as sustainability-linked loans, green bonds, and decarbonization strategies, to support IFC’s Paris Alignment efforts and clients’ decarbonization strategies.
Collaborating with regional investment teams to ensure that prospective investments are evaluated through a climate lens, identifying elements that enhance climate impact.
Coordinating with IFC investment and upstream-advisory teams to ensure alignment on climate initiatives.
Acting as a liaison between the regional industry group and the Climate Business Department, disseminating knowledge, coordinating climate-related events and training, and contributing to knowledge management by sharing regional insights and lessons learned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 10 to 12 years of experience in investment banking or within a private sector corporate or multilateral development bank focused on climate finance, ideally with experience in emerging markets. A strong track record in structuring debt and/or equity investments with a focus on climate finance instruments is essential. Candidates should have a deep understanding of climate business opportunities, gained through relevant work experience in sectors such as renewable energy, transport, logistics, real estate, agriculture, manufacturing, and climate tech. Excellent knowledge of the climate business landscape, including the latest trends and developments, is crucial for converting these into viable investment opportunities. Candidates should also have a good network among climate professionals in the region and demonstrate strategic thinking, analytical skills, sound judgment, and strong communication abilities.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field is required, with a strong understanding of core business, economic, and financial concepts, as well as development issues and impact. This educational background is essential for the candidate to effectively navigate the complexities of climate finance and investment.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 10 to 12 years in relevant fields such as investment banking or climate finance within a multilateral development bank. This experience should ideally include a focus on emerging markets, demonstrating a strong capability in structuring investments and understanding climate-related business opportunities.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. While no additional languages are specified as preferred, proficiency in other languages relevant to the Asia & Pacific region could be beneficial.
