Job Overview: The Intern position at NRC Geneva is designed for students who are pursuing this internship as a mandatory part of their university program. The intern will support various functions within the Policy and Advocacy Section (PAS), including humanitarian diplomacy, relationship management with stakeholders, foreign policy analysis, and humanitarian financing policy implementation. The role involves administrative support, outreach, and coordination of advocacy efforts, as well as the development of internal resources and communication materials. The intern will gain valuable experience in humanitarian policy and advocacy, contributing to the organization's mission of supporting displaced and vulnerable populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for supporting humanitarian diplomacy and partnership workstreams, assisting in the development and dissemination of internal resources, research, reports, training materials, and advocacy materials. Specific tasks include conducting aid and foreign policy analysis, producing presentations and communication materials, attending relevant calls and events, and supporting outreach and communication efforts. The intern will also assist in organizing events and workshops, preparing donor reports, and developing tracking tools for internal and external workplan objectives. The role requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Social Science, Law, Communications, International Relations, or a relevant field. An interest in humanitarian policy or advocacy is essential, with familiarity in relevant policy areas considered a strong advantage. Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English is required, and proficiency in French is an advantage. Proven research, analytical, and documentation skills are necessary, along with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Candidates should demonstrate self-starter qualities, teamwork, planning and delivering results, and the ability to cope with change and multiple tasks.
Educational Background: The internship is intended for students currently enrolled in a university program, and it must be a mandatory part of their studies as per Swiss cantonal or federal legislation. The university must agree to sign a tri-partite agreement with NRC Geneva and provide an attestation confirming that the internship will grant study credits.
Experience: The position is aimed at students who are in the early stages of their careers and are looking to gain practical experience in the humanitarian sector. While prior experience in humanitarian work is not mandatory, any relevant experience in advocacy, policy analysis, or related fields will be considered an advantage.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within NRC. Proficiency in French is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with stakeholders and partners in Geneva and beyond.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time internship position for a duration of 6 months, with a preference for candidates who can commit to full-time hours. However, a work time arrangement of 80-90% may be considered for the right candidate. The internship is unpaid, and candidates must be eligible to work in Switzerland as part of their university program.
