Job Overview: The Security Guard position at UNESCO is crucial for maintaining the safety and security of the premises, staff, and visitors. Under the supervision of the Security Shift Lead, the Security Guard will be responsible for a variety of surveillance and security-related tasks. Duties and Responsibilities: The Security Guard will carry out essential duties including but not limited to: conducting surveillance and controlling access to the premises; ensuring the protection of ICTP property, staff, and visitors; verifying the IDs of visitors and ascertaining the purpose of their visit; utilizing security instruments such as video surveillance systems, detectors, and alarm systems; patrolling the premises both internally and externally; opening and closing buildings and ensuring all common areas are secure; identifying and reporting any unusual situations or emergencies; providing assistance to staff and visitors, including first aid when necessary; participating in fire drills and emergency simulations; and maintaining a security logbook of observations and actions taken. The role also includes driving official vehicles for patrols and other necessary duties.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed secondary, technical, or vocational school. A valid, clean driving license is required. The position demands tact and diplomacy when interacting with visitors and personnel, as well as the ability to work effectively in an international and multicultural environment. Proficiency in standard office automation tools such as Excel and Word is necessary, along with a basic understanding of technical installations related to security and emergency response. Flexibility to work within a 24-hour coverage shift system, including nights and weekends, is essential. Candidates should possess excellent observational skills, analytical abilities, and the capacity to manage emergencies calmly and effectively. Strong communication skills and respect for professional confidentiality are also required.
