Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is primarily based in Paris and is full-time, with the possibility of remote work depending on the selected candidate's needs. The intern will support the functioning of UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) and the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS). The intern will work under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer and will be involved in various tasks aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of IMEO and MARS. This includes preparing daily draft notifications, tracking and organizing responses from governments and companies, compiling statistics and visuals for presentations, and monitoring internal progress. The intern will also assist in preparing presentation materials, attending meetings, and maintaining documentation, all of which are crucial for the successful operation of the IMEO and MARS initiatives. The role is designed to provide the intern with exposure to different components of the system, from remote sensing outputs to engagement with stakeholders, thereby contributing to their professional development in the field of environmental governance and climate policy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: preparing daily draft MARS notifications to governments and OGMP 2.0 companies, ensuring accuracy and timely transmission; tracking and organizing responses from stakeholders, summarizing key findings; compiling statistics and visuals for presentations and reports; monitoring internal progress and milestones of MARS; preparing compelling narratives that illustrate system growth and impact; supporting the preparation of presentation materials; attending meetings and drafting concise summaries; maintaining and updating MARS documentation; keeping stakeholder contact lists current; assisting in organizing IMEO events and workshops; providing logistical support for meetings; and performing other duties as required by IMEO. The intern will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the IMEO and MARS, contributing to the overall mission of reducing methane emissions and addressing climate change.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in International Relations, Environmental Studies/Science, Public Policy, or a related field; or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the same fields. While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must provide proof of their academic status and may be required to submit an official certificate later in the application process. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent drafting and communication abilities are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes a focus on International Relations, Environmental Studies/Science, Public Policy, or a related field. Candidates should have a demonstrated interest or academic background in environmental governance, climate policy, or energy transitions. The internship is open to students in their final year of a bachelor's degree program, as well as those pursuing or having completed master's or Ph.D. programs. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
