Job Overview:
The WBG Director for Digital Access will play a pivotal role in leading a diverse and multidisciplinary team within the Digital and AI Vertical Vice Presidency. This position is responsible for driving the organizational change necessary to establish a new department focused on Solutions and Impact in Digital Access and Affordability. The Director will provide strategic leadership, ensuring alignment between policy and operational solutions, and will mobilize teams to deliver scalable impact for public and private sector clients. The role requires a visionary leader who can guide the implementation of sector strategies, engage with senior stakeholders, and represent the WBG on global issues related to digital access. The Director will also oversee the delivery of high-quality advisory services and foster a culture of partnership and collaboration across various sectors and regions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WBG Director will be accountable for a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Strategic Leadership: Leading the new WBG approach for Solutions and Impact in Digital Access and Affordability, coordinating the implementation of sector strategies, and providing vision and direction for scaling solutions.
  • Operational Delivery: Supporting project development across regions, ensuring the delivery of high-quality advisory services, and providing specialized knowledge on sectoral context and solutions.
  • Relationship Management: Fostering a culture of partnership, coordinating with the Vertical’s Partnership Team, and managing senior-level relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Global Engagement: Leading advocacy and partnership initiatives on digital access issues and positioning the WBG as a global leader in this domain.
  • Internal Engagement and Capacity Building: Supporting a culture of knowledge sharing and enhancing client work quality.
  • Knowledge Management and Communications: Cultivating an environment of openness, disseminating best practices, and leading efforts to collect and validate data.
  • People/Talent Management: Modeling leadership values, mentoring teams, and driving talent management efforts.
  • Resource Management: Managing the department’s budget and ensuring compliance with internal controls and policies.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in engineering, technology studies, or an MBA related to networks and data centers, with a minimum of 15 years of experience in progressively responsible roles. The candidate should be a recognized leader in digital access and affordability strategy, with a proven track record of applying technical knowledge to deliver impactful outcomes. Experience engaging with senior government and private sector leaders, managing complex portfolios, and leading organizational change initiatives is essential. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work across institutional boundaries and coordinate with diverse stakeholders to achieve results.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have an advanced degree, such as a Master's or PhD, in relevant fields such as engineering, technology studies, or business administration, particularly in areas related to networks, data centers, and devices. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of digital connectivity and infrastructure.

Experience:
A minimum of 15 years of experience in positions of increasing responsibility and complexity is required. Candidates should have significant field-based experience in client countries, familiarity with WBG operations, and a proven ability to manage complex, multi-institutional portfolios. Experience in leading scalable technology solutions and engaging in high-level policy discussions is also necessary.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English. While no additional languages are specified as preferred, proficiency in other languages may be beneficial in engaging with diverse stakeholders globally.
