Job Overview:
The Communication Associate position at UNICEF Venezuela is crucial for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating advocacy and communication strategies aimed at raising awareness of children's and women's issues. This role is particularly important in the context of Venezuela's socio-economic and political crisis, which has led to increased humanitarian needs. The Communication Associate will work closely with various staff members and external partners to ensure effective communication design and delivery. The incumbent will be responsible for managing UNICEF's digital and social media strategies, ensuring that communication products are produced timely, and supporting the organization's credibility and brand. The role also involves monitoring and reporting on communication results, engaging with digital communities, and contributing to knowledge management and capacity building within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating advocacy and communication strategies to promote children's and women's issues.
  • Support the management of UNICEF's digital and social media strategies, including content creation for various platforms.
  • Monitor and report on communication results, ensuring that objectives are evaluated and improved upon.
  • Engage with digital communities and create content that fosters dialogue and communication.
  • Train program staff on effective communication of UNICEF's messages and support capacity development activities.
  • Research and analyze best practices in digital communication to enhance knowledge development.
  • Collaborate with external partners to ensure synergies in communication efforts and fundraising initiatives.
  • Prepare monitoring and reporting information for supervisors on performance indicators to drive accountability for results.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in communication, media, or interactive digital media.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, including knowledge of current theories and practices in communication research, planning, and strategy.
  • Familiarity with various media formats and computer systems, including internet navigation and office applications.
  • Understanding of global human rights issues, particularly those affecting children and women.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds and high attention to detail.

Educational Background:
A university degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required for this position. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in communication practices and methodologies, as well as an understanding of media formats and digital communication strategies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in communication, media, or interactive digital media. Experience within a UN system agency or organization is considered advantageous, as it provides familiarity with the operational context and challenges faced by UNICEF.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, while basic proficiency in English is required. Intermediate proficiency in English is desirable, allowing for effective communication in a bilingual environment.
