Job Overview: The Field Security Associate position is integral to the security management framework of the United Nations, particularly in the Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territory (IOPT). This role involves assisting in the implementation of security operations and managing the safety and security of UN personnel. The Field Security Associate will work under the guidance of Field Security Coordination Officers (FSCOs) and will be responsible for collecting and communicating security information, maintaining security plans, monitoring compliance with security measures, reporting security incidents, and conducting training sessions. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety of UN operations while gaining valuable experience in security management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the ASA/FSCO in gathering and communicating information regarding the security situation in the country, liaising with host government security organizations, and assessing the security situation at the duty station.
Help maintain the Security Plan, including updating staff lists and supporting actions during its implementation.
Monitor compliance with Security Risk Management (SRM) measures, conducting inspections and assessments of UN premises.
Report security incidents affecting UN and INGOs/IOs personnel and prepare security reports.
Organize and conduct training courses on security awareness and provide orientation to newly assigned staff.
Conduct security evaluations and provide advice on Residential Security Measures.
Provide general administrative assistance to the ASA/FSCO, maintaining correspondence files and databases, and arranging appointments.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess secondary education or a first-level university degree in fields such as Business Administration, Political Science, Management, or Security Management. Relevant work experience in the humanitarian sector, program management, operations, security, or emergency response is essential. A minimum of 6 years of experience with a high school diploma or 3 years with a bachelor's degree is required. Proficiency in computer-based tools, including MS Office and web applications, is essential, along with the ability to work on a rotational shift basis, including nights and weekends. A valid driver's license (class C) is also required.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include secondary education as a minimum, with a preference for candidates holding a first-level university degree in relevant fields. While a bachelor's degree is not mandatory, it is advantageous, especially if accompanied by relevant work experience in the humanitarian sector or related fields.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience for candidates with a high school diploma, or 3 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Experience in the humanitarian sector, program management, operations, security, or emergency response is crucial. Prior working experience within the UN system or international organizations is desirable, as is experience in emergency operations and web-based management systems.
Languages: Fluency in English, Arabic, and Hebrew is required for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and coordination within the diverse operational environment of the UN.
