Job Overview: The position of Project Management Consultant for Central Asia is designed to enhance the operational capacity of UNEP's initiatives in the region, specifically focusing on the Nature-Based Solutions Innovation Accelerator (NBS-IA) project and the Environmental Monitoring in Central Asia project. The consultant will play a pivotal role in positioning the Almaty Office as a regional environmental hub by expanding its project portfolio, increasing visibility, and organizing capacity-building and awareness-raising events. The consultant will be responsible for daily coordination with stakeholders across five Central Asian countries, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among government organizations, research institutes, and private sector players. The role requires a proactive approach to partnership development, project monitoring, and outreach activities, all aimed at fostering a sustainable and resilient infrastructure in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of specialized tasks under the supervision of the Project Manager of the NBS-IA project and the Head of the Central Asia Subregional Office. Key responsibilities include: 1) For the NBS-IA project: - Developing partnerships within the Central Asia region, engaging with governmental organizations, research institutes, and private sector stakeholders. - Supporting the identification and development of project pipelines, including establishing a database of priority areas and mapping existing and upcoming nature-based solutions and infrastructure interventions. - Providing local support for in-country missions, workshops, webinars, and outreach events. - Monitoring project implementation for selected consortia, conducting regular check-ins, onsite visits, and managing knowledge sharing. - Representing the NBS-IA project in regional forums and events to enhance visibility and engagement. - Performing any additional tasks assigned by the NBS-IA Project Manager. 2) For the Environmental Monitoring in Central Asia project: - Reviewing and consolidating partner reports, preparing operational closure reports, and final reports for donors. - Coordinating with government agencies and stakeholders for follow-up support regarding publications and digital infrastructure. - Conducting outreach activities to promote the use of developed products and services in Central Asia.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or equivalent in international organizations, consulting, environmental finance, or project management. A minimum of seven years of professional experience in these areas is required, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience working within the UN system and established networks with government agencies and private sector companies in Central Asia. Candidates should demonstrate sound project management skills and a solid understanding of environmental management principles. Proficiency in standard software applications is essential, along with strong interpersonal, report writing, and communication skills. The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt quickly to changing circumstances is highly desirable.
Educational Background: A Master's Degree or equivalent in fields related to international organizations, consulting, environmental finance, or project management is required for this position.
