Duties and Responsibilities: As the Liaison Officer for Local Community Engagement, your primary responsibilities will include developing and implementing engagement activities that foster mutual understanding and collaboration with local communities. You will establish and maintain contacts with civil society representatives and community leaders, identifying opportunities for dialogue and joint initiatives in both France and Switzerland. Engaging actively with local communities to understand their needs and concerns will be essential, ensuring that these perspectives are integrated into CERN's activities. You will lead public dialogue efforts, represent CERN in engagements with stakeholders, and serve as the first point of contact for inquiries from local individuals and groups. Additionally, you will plan and coordinate events, site visits, and initiatives that promote inclusivity and transparency, while also preparing official reports and presentations related to your work.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in fields such as International Relations, Public Relations, Administration, Sociology, Journalism, Communication, or STEM with a focus on science communication. A strong background in stakeholder and community engagement is essential, particularly within large-scale scientific or infrastructure projects. Experience in managing community relations and a solid understanding of nonprofit networks are also required. The ability to engage effectively with authorities and senior officials, as well as a proven capacity to contribute to complex projects, is crucial for success in this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as International Relations, Public Relations, Sociology, Journalism, Communication, or a STEM discipline with a focus on science communication. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of community engagement and the scientific context in which CERN operates.
Experience: Candidates should have demonstrated extensive experience in stakeholder and community engagement or liaison roles, ideally within large-scale scientific, engineering, or infrastructure projects. Additional Notes: This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of applying for an indefinite position subject to certain conditions. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the role requires full onsite presence. Candidates should be prepared for work during nights, Sundays, and official holidays, as well as shift work. A valid driving license is also required for this position.
