This section is pivotal in managing UNEP's digital communications activities, which encompass social media, web content, internal communications, and the management of the library/knowledge repository units. Interns will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of Digital Strategy, contributing to various editorial, support, and technical tasks. The role is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in digital strategy and communications, allowing them to engage in meaningful projects that align with UNEP's mission of promoting environmental sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include researching, compiling, drafting, and editing basic information for online content production, often under tight deadlines. They will review existing content to identify necessary edits and ensure alignment with agreed strategies. Additionally, interns will manage meeting agendas, draft meeting notes, create presentations, and develop training curricula. They will also carry out research tasks and provide valuable inputs into digital strategy planning and activities. Technical responsibilities may involve participating in knowledge repository clean-up, indexing, and related work, with a preference for candidates who have experience in Dspace or front and back-end Drupal development in an AWS environment.

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent); or (c) have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program. Preferred areas of study include Communications, Information Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields. No prior working experience is required, but a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Experience:
The internship does not require any prior professional work experience. However, applicants should have a relevant academic background that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This allows candidates to gain practical experience while contributing to UNEP's digital strategy initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, making proficiency in these languages essential for effective communication within the organization.

All costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Kenya may need to secure the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship.
