Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Asia Pacific Regional Lead in implementing UNEP FI’s strategy to mobilize sustainable finance in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. This position involves outreach to banks and insurers to encourage them to become signatories to the Principles for Responsible Banking and the Principles for Sustainable Insurance. The consultant will be responsible for managing relationships with UNEP FI secretariat and its members, promoting leadership, capacity building, and raising awareness about sustainable finance. The consultant will also establish and maintain partnerships to promote training and capacity-building opportunities, develop coordination plans, and engage with various stakeholders, including industry associations and regulators. The role requires a proactive approach to support the Secretariat in member communications and maintaining regional information on UNEP FI’s website, ensuring that the organization’s objectives are met effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: supporting the APAC Regional Lead in coordinating the workplan; developing and implementing outreach and coordination plans for the region; updating and implementing the work plan for APAC; identifying key markets for mobilizing sustainable finance; maintaining contact information for members and stakeholders; facilitating relationships with UNEP FI members; managing communications with members; consulting with members on regional activities; raising awareness of sustainable finance; supporting the adoption of the Principles for Responsible Banking and Sustainable Insurance; organizing events and securing sponsorships; engaging financial institutions in sustainable finance activities; assisting in the preparation of missions by UNEP delegates; and contributing to reporting on progress to donors and partners. The consultant will also be responsible for delivering capacity-building events and supporting regional activities to expand membership in the APAC region.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master’s degree in finance, business administration, economics, urban studies, social sciences, environmental studies, sustainable development, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree may be accepted if the candidate has at least 9 years of relevant experience. Additionally, candidates should have at least seven years of working experience in finance and/or sustainable development, with knowledge of sustainable banking considered a strong advantage. Strong coordination, organization, and planning skills are essential, along with the ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands.
Educational Background: A master’s degree in a relevant field such as finance, business administration, economics, urban studies, social sciences, environmental studies, or sustainable development is required. A bachelor’s degree may be accepted in lieu of a master’s degree if the candidate has sufficient experience, specifically 9 years in a related field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of professional experience in finance and/or sustainable development. Candidates with knowledge and experience in sustainable banking will have a competitive advantage. The role demands a strong understanding of project development and planning, as well as the ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile for this position.
Additional Notes: The consultant will work remotely and is expected to engage in a contract lasting for 12 months. The position is full-time, and the consultant will report directly to the Governance and Membership Team Lead while working closely with the APAC UNEP FI Regional Lead.
