Job Overview: The Underwriter position at MIGA is a critical role within the Operations Department, specifically in the Global Transaction Team (GTT). The Underwriter will lead transaction teams and be responsible for underwriting guarantee transactions, ensuring that all aspects of the transaction are thoroughly evaluated and managed. This includes conducting risk assessments, preparing financial models, and collaborating with various stakeholders to analyze project viability. The Underwriter will also engage with clients and government officials, conduct due diligence, and present high-quality guarantee proposals to senior management. The role requires a proactive approach to business origination and transaction structuring, with a focus on developing a comprehensive understanding of MIGA's guarantee activities across different sectors and regions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Underwriter will lead multi-disciplinary transaction teams through the underwriting and approval process, coordinating due diligence meetings and missions. Responsibilities include conducting sector and project risk assessments, preparing complex financial models to analyze investment viability, and collaborating with risk management officers to assess country and project risks. The Underwriter will develop recommendations for guarantee terms and conditions, negotiate contracts with prospective guarantee holders, and engage closely with clients and partners. Additionally, the Underwriter will prepare guarantee proposal documents for senior management consideration and support new business origination efforts to generate a robust pipeline of business.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, International Business, or a related field, along with at least 5 years of relevant experience. This experience should include analyzing and executing project financings, trade finance, or structured financial transactions, particularly in emerging markets. A solid understanding of negotiating complex financial contracts and extensive knowledge of emerging markets finance is essential. Candidates should demonstrate technical underwriting skills and have a proven track record in project finance and structured finance. Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and lead transaction teams effectively.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, or International Business is required for this position. This educational background should be complemented by practical experience in analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis and project financing, particularly in the context of emerging markets.
Experience: The Underwriter role requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project finance, trade finance, or structured financial transactions. Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Fluency in French is strongly preferred, and knowledge of Spanish is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.
