Job Overview:
The consultancy role focuses on conducting targeted industry research into the philanthropic sector of the global technology industry, particularly in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, data science, and open-source digital public goods. The consultant will propose at least five high-potential products or engagement strategies for UNICEF to engage with technology foundations and philanthropists, raise funds, and increase global brand awareness. The role involves mapping the technology industry philanthropic landscape, documenting best practices, conducting interviews with industry stakeholders, and co-creating pilot concepts with detailed budgets and timelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Intelligence and Market Mapping: Conduct analysis of relevant partners aligned with UNICEF's mission, identify and profile top foundations and individuals for potential collaboration, and provide insights into market trends.
  • Primary Insights from the Industry: Conduct in-depth interviews with industry representatives to capture findings on social responsibility and partnership preferences.
  • Benchmarking and Case Studies: Produce a compendium of case studies highlighting successful technology philanthropy collaborations, analyzing partnership mechanics and social impact outcomes.
  • Pilot Concept Development: Co-design pilot concepts illustrating how UNICEF could operationalize partnerships, including descriptions, potential partners, implementation steps, and resource requirements.
  • Validation and Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate workshops to validate findings and secure alignment on next steps, delivering materials summarizing feedback and actions.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include a university degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a relevant field, along with at least 10 years of professional experience in industry research, particularly in technology and philanthropy. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for bridging technology and social good, possess strong analytical and presentation skills, and have familiarity with social responsibility theses or nonprofit-business partnerships.

Educational Background:
A university degree (Bachelor’s or higher) in a relevant field such as Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics is mandatory for this position.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in industry research within the technology and philanthropy sectors. Experience working with or for UNICEF or mission-driven organizations is preferred, along with relevant experience in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
The consultant is expected to travel for a stay of four nights in Stockholm or another location determined by the contracting manager at least once during the contract period. The consultant is responsible for arranging their own travel, including visa and travel insurance. Payment of professional fees will be based on the submission of agreed deliverables, and UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if deliverables do not meet required standards.
