Job Overview:
The position of Humanitarian Aid Worker at NRC involves providing critical support and assistance to individuals and communities affected by crises. The role requires a strong commitment to safeguarding principles, ensuring that all interactions with beneficiaries are conducted with respect and dignity. This position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work effectively in challenging environments. The role also includes monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness, reporting on progress, and making recommendations for improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement and manage humanitarian programs in accordance with NRC's standards and guidelines.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify the specific requirements of displaced populations.
  • Collaborate with local partners and stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Monitor and evaluate program activities, ensuring compliance with NRC's safeguarding policies.
  • Provide training and support to local staff and volunteers involved in program implementation.
  • Prepare reports on program progress and challenges, presenting findings to management and stakeholders.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of displaced individuals, ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with other humanitarian actors to share information and best practices.
  • Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe and respectful manner, adhering to NRC's zero-tolerance policy on exploitation and abuse.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of humanitarian principles and practices, with a demonstrated ability to work in complex and challenging environments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the role involves engaging with diverse groups of people. Candidates should have a proven track record of working effectively in teams and be able to adapt to changing circumstances. A commitment to safeguarding and ethical practices is crucial, as is the ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for beneficiaries. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes is also required, along with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions based on findings.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international relations, social sciences, or humanitarian studies is preferred. Additional certifications or training in humanitarian response, project management, or safeguarding practices will be considered an asset. Candidates with a strong academic background and relevant coursework will be prioritized.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of experience working in humanitarian settings, preferably with a focus on displacement and protection issues. Experience in program implementation, monitoring, and evaluation is essential. Familiarity with the local context and challenges faced by displaced populations in Colombia will be highly advantageous. Previous experience working with NGOs or international organizations is also preferred, as is experience in capacity building and training of local staff.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Proficiency in English is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners. Knowledge of indigenous languages or other local dialects will be considered a plus, enhancing the ability to engage with diverse communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is full-time and may require travel to remote areas where displaced populations are located. The contract duration is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance.
