Job Overview: The Private Sector Engagement Officer will play a crucial role in supporting and enhancing IOM Nigeria's private sector engagement portfolio. This position involves strategic outreach to private sector actors, developing partnerships, mobilizing resources, and program development. The officer will work closely with the Chief of Mission and the Head of Programme Coordination and Innovation, ensuring that IOM Nigeria's Private Sector Strategy is effectively implemented. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government ministries, civil society organizations, and international financial institutions, to advance IOM's objectives in Nigeria and align with broader strategies such as the Nigeria UNSDCF and IOM Global Strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the implementation of IOM Nigeria’s Private Sector Engagement Strategy through targeted outreach and engagement with companies, foundations, and corporate networks.
Conduct mapping and maintain an updated database of private sector stakeholders to identify partnership and fundraising opportunities.
Liaise with regional private sector focal points and collaborate with HQ PSP to leverage global opportunities.
Identify and develop new private sector and IFI programme opportunities, including drafting partner profiles and producing guidance notes.
Assist in designing approaches to expand IOM Nigeria’s private sector portfolio.
Develop value propositions for private sector partners and match their CSR priorities with IOM programmes.
Maintain accurate records of engagement activities and prepare reports and communication products.
Ensure compliance with IOM’s private sector partnership policies and coordinate with relevant units on risk management.
Represent IOM Nigeria at meetings and corporate forums, and support regional engagement efforts in West Africa. 1
Monitor Key Performance Indicators related to private sector partnerships and perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in international relations, International Development, Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, Law, or a related field with 4-5 years of relevant professional experience; or a University degree in the above fields with 5-7 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in private sector engagement, CSR initiatives, partnership development, or corporate fundraising.
Proven ability to provide technical guidance on private sector engagement within development or humanitarian sectors.
Experience in mapping corporate actors, conducting outreach, and facilitating partnerships.
Familiarity with programme development, proposal writing, or resource mobilization is an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as international relations, International Development, Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, or Law. Alternatively, a University degree in these fields is acceptable if accompanied by extensive relevant professional experience. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of migration governance and private sector engagement.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4-5 years of relevant professional experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or 5-7 years for those with a University degree. Candidates should have experience in private sector engagement, CSR initiatives, partnership development, or corporate fundraising. Additionally, experience in providing technical guidance on private sector engagement within development or humanitarian sectors is essential. Familiarity with mapping corporate actors and conducting outreach is also necessary, along with experience in programme development and resource mobilization.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, both oral and written. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for appointment. IOM covers consultants against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan, but does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents.
