Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Resident Coordinator leads the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Eswatini, representing the UN Secretary General to the Government. The UNCT comprises various UN entities working collaboratively to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness at the country level. The mission of the UN in Eswatini is to support the government in achieving sustainable development goals and improving living standards. The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) plays a crucial role in inter-agency coordination, strategic planning, and ensuring accountability across the UN system. Job Overview: The Data Management and Results Reporting Intern will be an integral part of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Eswatini, working under the supervision of the Data Management and Results Reporting Officer (DMRO). This internship is designed to provide practical experience in data management, analysis, and reporting within the context of UN operations. The intern will engage in various activities that support the UNCT's strategic planning and monitoring efforts, contributing to the overall mission of improving the effectiveness of UN operations in the country. The intern will be involved in analytical support, implementation planning, data collection and research, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring and evaluation activities. This role is crucial for ensuring that the UN's efforts are data-driven and aligned with national development priorities, particularly in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Analytical Support: Review and validate incoming data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency before analysis. Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of reports to identify trends, gaps, and progress against set indicators. Synthesize findings into clear, actionable insights to inform decision-making and strategic planning. Prepare analytical summaries and visualizations to effectively communicate results to stakeholders.
Implementation Planning: Contribute to drafting the One UN Results report. Assist in monitoring Joint Workplans, including results frameworks, indicators, and timelines. Prepare reports for UNCT attention on the UNSDCF 2021 - 202
Data and Research: Collect, organize, and maintain relevant datasets to support evidence-based decision-making. Conduct desk research and literature reviews to inform programme planning and reporting. Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify patterns, trends, and gaps. Produce research briefs, summaries, and visual presentations for stakeholder use.
Stakeholder Engagement: Support coordination with the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development (MEPD), line ministries, and development partners. Assist in organizing consultations, workshops, and validation meetings.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Assist in strengthening SDG monitoring systems. Support the development of tools for tracking the implementation of the Eswatini Strategic Roadmap for Accelerated Growth and Development (ESRAP). Contribute to periodic progress reports and policy briefs.
Required Qualifications: Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Preferred studies include being currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor program in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Policy, or a related field. Strong analytical and writing skills are essential, along with familiarity with SDGs, national development planning, and Eswatini’s socio-economic context. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, or STATA) is also required, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in or having completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. The preferred fields of study are Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Policy, or related disciplines. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical capabilities and writing skills, as well as familiarity with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the socio-economic context of Eswatini.
Experience: While professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This includes familiarity with data analysis, research methodologies, and the ability to synthesize information effectively. The internship is designed for students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in a UN setting, particularly in data management and results reporting.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French is also beneficial. Additionally, familiarity with Siswati would be desirable, as it may enhance communication with local stakeholders and contribute to a better understanding of the local context.
