Job Overview: The Senior Country Officer position at IFC is a pivotal role that involves leading business development for investment, upstream, and advisory services across various industries in Bolivia. The officer will be based in La Paz but will also spend significant time in Santa Cruz, reflecting the need for a strong presence in both locations. Reporting to the Divisional Director for the Andean Region, the Senior Country Officer will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with business partners and high-level government representatives, ensuring that IFC's interventions maximize impact and contribute to the overall development of Bolivia's industries. This role requires a strategic mindset to develop and implement effective strategies for investment and advisory activities, while also supporting sector teams in executing transactions and managing portfolio projects.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Country Officer will oversee all IFC's investment, advisory, and upstream activities in Bolivia. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies for these activities in alignment with regional goals, supervising a team of regional staff, and coordinating client engagement strategies. The officer will establish and maintain relationships with Bolivian government officials at various levels, represent IFC at key functions, and work across multiple sectors such as energy, mining, finance, transport, and agribusiness. Additional duties include supporting project development, transaction execution, and portfolio management, while ensuring the quality and performance of the country’s portfolio. The officer will also facilitate advisory services project identification and design, coordinate with social and environmental colleagues, and propose solutions to industry challenges to achieve sustainable development impact.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a relevant field such as business, finance, or economics, along with 12-15 years of relevant experience. This experience should include a proven track record in business consulting, investment banking, or operational roles within specific sectors. Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish are essential, as is an existing network of contacts with key government stakeholders and private sector leaders. Candidates should demonstrate extensive knowledge of Bolivia's political, social, and economic landscape, as well as a broad understanding of the sectors and industries within the Andean Region, including their growth potential and sustainability challenges.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field is required for this position.
