Job Overview: The Fundraising Communications Internship is an opportunity for a dynamic and proactive individual with a strong interest in fundraising, communication, and refugee issues. The intern will be part of the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Belgium team, based in the UNHCR Office in Brussels. The intern will support the fundraising team in ensuring that UNHCR's private sector fundraising network has the necessary content, tools, resources, and best practice communication products to run an effective fundraising program. This role is crucial in helping to acquire and retain donors in Belgium, thereby boosting UNHCR's brand equity and improving brand coherence in the region. The intern will engage in various tasks related to online communications, content creation, research, and donor engagement, contributing to the overall success of the fundraising initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: providing day-to-day support on online communications and social media performance monitoring; gathering and tailoring compelling UNHCR content for various fundraising channels such as email, social media, and websites; creating engaging thematic content through copywriting, video editing, and photo editing; researching the latest statistics, messaging, and refugee stories; adapting fundraising campaigns and communications for Belgian and Luxembourgish audiences, including translation; collaborating to develop or optimize emails and website articles to surpass key performance indicators (KPIs); responding to donor queries in a timely and accurate manner; supporting research on potential partnership opportunities; maintaining and updating prospect lists; organizing databases; and performing any other duties as required.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this internship should possess the following qualifications: be a recent graduate or current student in a graduate or undergraduate program at a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO, with a focus on relevant fields such as Fundraising, Communication, International Relations, Marketing, Media, or Journalism; have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field; be a strong communicator fluent in both French and English, with advanced writing and editing skills; knowledge of Dutch is considered an asset; familiarity with digital media, content management systems, and web-based applications; experience with creative tools such as Canva, Photoshop, or Adobe Premiere is advantageous; demonstrate a genuine desire to learn and adapt; possess an eye for detail and be results-oriented; and have good interpersonal skills and be a keen team player.
Educational Background: Candidates should have completed their studies within two years prior to their application or be current students in a relevant graduate or undergraduate program. The educational background should be in fields related to fundraising, communication, international relations, marketing, media, journalism, or similar areas that align with the work of UNHCR.
Experience: The internship is designed for individuals who are recent graduates or current students, thus requiring no extensive prior work experience. However, candidates should have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field, demonstrating a foundational understanding of the principles and practices related to fundraising and communication.
Languages: Fluency in French and English is mandatory, with advanced writing and editing skills required. Knowledge of Dutch is considered an asset and would enhance the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Additional Notes: This internship is associated with an internship agreement for an initial duration of six months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of eight months. It is a full-time role, requiring 40 hours of work per week, from Monday to Friday, with working hours from 9 AM to 6 PM. The internship is paid according to UNHCR policy. The successful candidate will be based in the UNHCR office in Brussels, Belgium, with the possibility of teleworking from home.
