Job Overview: The Communications Associate will play a pivotal role in leading internal and external communication efforts for UNDP India’s Circular Economy portfolio within the Action for Climate and Environment (ACE) unit. This position involves developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with UNDP India’s corporate communications goals. The Associate will be responsible for enhancing visibility and knowledge dissemination related to the Circular Economy initiatives, which aim to improve plastic waste management practices in India. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government partners and private sector entities, to ensure effective communication and advocacy efforts. The Associate will also manage content creation, media outreach, and event management, ensuring that all communications reflect the objectives and impact of the projects.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Associate will report to the Head of Communications and Strategic Partnerships and the Project Specialist for the Circular Economy Portfolio. Key responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing a communication strategy for the Circular Economy portfolio, ensuring alignment with corporate guidelines.
Conducting communication needs assessments and integrating findings into annual work plans.
Drafting communication materials that highlight project objectives, progress, and impact for diverse audiences.
Ensuring visibility efforts with private sector partners and developing donor-focused products such as case studies and success stories.
Coordinating communications for various government programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with official protocols.
Creating social media content, videos, newsletters, and other multimedia tools that reflect field realities and adhere to UNDP branding.
Managing relationships with creative agencies and vendors to ensure quality and timely delivery of communication outputs.
Leading design and branding efforts for key communication products and events, ensuring coherence with UNDP’s visual identity.
Capturing lessons learned and best practices for knowledge sharing and supporting media outreach efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess secondary education as a minimum requirement, with a university degree in Communications or a related field being advantageous. A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required for those with secondary education, while candidates with a bachelor’s degree need at least 4 years of experience. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in communications within the development sector or corporate communications, with proven ability to write clearly and concisely. Proficiency in developing audio-visual communication products and managing social media content is essential. Experience in internal and external communication strategy development, campaign design, and event management for high-profile initiatives is highly desirable.
Educational Background: The position requires at least secondary education, with a preference for candidates holding a bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field. While a degree is not mandatory, it is considered an asset that may enhance a candidate's application.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in development projects or with international development agencies if they possess secondary education. Those with a bachelor’s degree should have at least 4 years of relevant experience. Experience in leading communications in the development sector, particularly in strategy development, campaign design, and storytelling, is crucial for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English and Hindi is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
