Job Overview:
The Cultural Mediator position is crucial for facilitating communication and understanding between newly arrived migrants and Spanish authorities. The candidate will be responsible for providing clear and comprehensible information through talks and informational sessions to migrants benefiting from various projects implemented by IOM Spain. This role requires a proactive approach to adapt content for different target groups, including minors, women, and vulnerable individuals. The mediator will also need to stay updated on border procedures and actions outlined in the European Migration and Asylum Pact, ensuring that migrants receive accurate and timely information regarding their rights and obligations. The position demands a high level of organization, creativity, and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a focus on the needs of the migrant population.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Cultural Mediator include: providing clear information through talks and sessions to migrants; supporting cultural and linguistic mediation between Spanish authorities and newly arrived migrants; adapting informational content for various target groups; staying updated on border procedures and European migration policies; handling phone inquiries from beneficiaries; assisting in translation and interpretation; providing information and advice to third-country nationals; conducting individual surveys with beneficiaries while adhering to ethical considerations; maintaining and updating project databases; preparing periodic reports on fieldwork; traveling as necessary for project needs; demonstrating proactivity, creativity, and strong organizational skills; and performing any other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or non-university degree. They should have experience working with migrants, particularly in cultural mediation, interpretation, and translation. Additionally, experience in delivering talks and informational sessions is required. A minimum of three years of relevant work experience is necessary for this position. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines. They must also be capable of working independently and as part of a team, showing a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes at least a high school diploma or a non-university degree. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complexities of migration issues and effectively communicating with diverse groups of people.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience, particularly in roles that involve direct interaction with migrants. Experience in cultural mediation, interpretation, and conducting informational sessions is highly valued. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in challenging environments and demonstrating adaptability and resilience.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish, French, and Bambara (both oral and written) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of English and other languages spoken in West Africa, such as Soninké, Mandinga, Wolof, and Arabic, is considered a significant advantage and will be positively evaluated during the selection process.

This position is subject to local hiring practices, and only candidates with a valid residence and work permit for Spain will be considered. The appointment will also be subject to medical certification and verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the relevant government authorities, as applicable.
