Job Overview:
The Head of the Russian Language Service is responsible for overseeing the Russian Language Service team, which includes professional staff and freelancers. This role involves revising, drafting, editing, and translating a variety of content, including administrative, legal, economic, scientific, and technical documents. The incumbent will ensure the high quality and timely delivery of Russian language content, assess the competence of team members, and provide training and guidance. The position requires a strong understanding of the IAEA's activities and the ability to make authoritative decisions regarding terminology and language standards. The Head will also implement innovative solutions and best practices in the production of Russian language content, contributing to the overall mission of the IAEA.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate the work of the Russian Language Service team, ensuring effective collaboration among team members.
  • Revise and edit content in Russian produced by staff and freelancers, covering a wide range of subjects.
  • Draft, translate, and edit documents as needed, ensuring accuracy and adherence to IAEA standards.
  • Make authoritative decisions on terminology and language issues, assessing the competence of team members.
  • Provide training and guidance to the Russian Language Service team and the Multilingual Output Production Team.
  • Implement best practices and innovative solutions in the production of Russian language content.
  • Monitor team performance and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with other departments to facilitate the effective exchange of information and support the IAEA's mission.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced university degree (Master's) in translation, languages, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree with additional relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in translation, with at least four years in an international organization or equivalent.
  • Experience in supervising translation teams is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and IT translation tools, particularly TRADOS Studio and Multiterm.
  • Excellent command of Russian and English, with knowledge of other IAEA official languages being an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's) in translation, languages, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree in the same fields, combined with two additional years of relevant experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of translation and language services within an international context.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in translation, with at least four years spent in an international organization, public sector, or non-profit organization. Experience in supervising teams of translators is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the specific challenges and standards of language services in a global context.

Languages:
Fluency in both Russian and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional IAEA official languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $101,540, along with a variable post adjustment and various benefits such as dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, and relocation expenses. Employees are entitled to six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, and a pension plan.
