Job Overview:
The Driver position at FHI 360 involves operating official vehicles to transport personnel to designated locations, running errands, and assisting staff with minor administrative tasks. The role requires maintaining accurate records of vehicle usage, including fuel consumption and any incidents that may occur. The Driver is also responsible for performing routine maintenance checks on the vehicle, ensuring it is in good working condition, and keeping it clean and hygienic. This position is crucial for facilitating the smooth operation of the organization’s activities and providing support to official visitors by offering country information and assistance as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate official vehicles to transport personnel to and from specified destinations as directed by supervisors.
  • Maintain records of work performed, including logistics such as fuel consumed, and report any accidents, incidents, or unusual occurrences in a timely manner.
  • Run office errands as required, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance checks, including oil, water, and tire inspections, and report any non-routine problems or malfunctions to the Senior Driver.
  • Keep official vehicles clean and in a hygienic state, ensuring they are presentable for use.
  • Provide country information and general assistance to official visitors, enhancing their experience during their stay.
  • Ensure that all vehicle documents, such as insurance and certificates of fitness, are up to date.
  • Assist passengers with loading and unloading luggage, equipment, and other supplies as necessary.
  • Adhere to all traffic rules and regulations while operating the vehicle, ensuring safety for all passengers and other road users.

Required Qualifications:
  • At least a Secondary Education Certificate or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant driving experience.
  • A valid and clean driver’s license is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of passenger vehicles is essential.
  • Familiarity with the Greater Lilongwe area and surrounding regions, including key regional routes, is preferred.
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively with team members and passengers.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid is preferred but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a Secondary Education Certificate or an equivalent qualification. This educational background ensures that the individual has the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties associated with the Driver position effectively.
