Job Overview: The UX/UI Designer position is part of the FAO Serbia's initiative, 'Digital Service Design Hub – Clicking Together with Citizens,' which is a collaborative program involving the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNICEF. This role is crucial in enhancing public services for vulnerable groups in Serbia, particularly in the agricultural sector. The designer will focus on creating a user-friendly digital platform that simplifies the application process for agricultural subsidies, thereby improving access for farmers. The position requires a commitment of approximately 10-12 working days per month for an initial period of six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. The UX/UI Designer will work closely with various stakeholders, including farmers, product managers, and IT contractors, to ensure that the digital service meets the needs of its users and adheres to human-centered design principles.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UX/UI Designer will be responsible for a range of tasks, including: contributing to the UX/UI design process for the agricultural subsidies platform from concept development to launch; supporting user research activities such as interviews, usability tests, and field visits with Serbian farmers to gather insights; translating complex application processes into intuitive user flows, wireframes, and mockups; creating high-fidelity prototypes and final UI designs for both desktop and mobile platforms using Figma; collaborating with product managers, software engineers, and agricultural experts to ensure design feasibility; developing and maintaining a design system or component library; participating in regular stakeholder visits to gather information; and performing any other duties necessary for the successful implementation of the platform according to human-centered design processes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Web Design, or a related field, or a certificate of completion from a major program in User Interface Design. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience in User Experience and User Interface Design for both mobile and desktop interfaces, along with a minimum of three years of experience in User Experience Research, which includes conducting in-depth interviews, usability testing, A/B testing, and observational research. A working knowledge of English and Serbian at level C is required, and candidates must be nationals or residents of Serbia with a valid residence permit.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in fields related to design, such as Graphic Design, Interaction Design, or Web Design. Alternatively, candidates may hold a certificate from a recognized program specializing in User Interface Design. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the principles of design and user experience, which are critical for the role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in User Experience and User Interface Design, specifically for mobile and desktop interfaces. Additionally, candidates should have at least three years of experience in User Experience Research, which encompasses various methodologies such as usability testing, in-depth interviews, and observational research. Experience in fast-paced environments and collaboration with engineers within product teams is also essential.
Languages: Candidates must have a working knowledge of English and Serbian, with proficiency at level C in both languages. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication with stakeholders and for conducting user research with Serbian farmers. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is initially offered for a six-month period, with an expected commitment of approximately 10-12 working days per month. There is a mandatory break from duty of at least 30 consecutive days within any twelve-month period, after which the contract may be renewed based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. The role is designed for candidates who hold citizenship or a valid residence and work permit in the Republic of Serbia. The position is part-time, and candidates will be assessed against specific criteria related to their experience and skills in user experience design and research.
