Job Description
Job Posting Organization: The internship is offered by the Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division (MPFD) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). ESCAP was established in 1947 and is one of the regional commissions of the United Nations. It aims to promote economic and social development in the Asia-Pacific region, working with 53 member States and 9 associate members. The organization focuses on various issues including macroeconomic policy, financing for development, and capacity building, and operates across multiple countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Job Overview: The Public intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Information Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the dissemination of publications and events for the MPFD. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in public information and communication strategies within the context of the United Nations. Interns will assist in developing a strategic communication plan and implementing digital outreach initiatives to enhance the visibility and impact of the Division’s work. The internship is unpaid and requires a commitment of five days per week for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the overall mission of the Division, including drafting content, producing multimedia materials, and assisting in event organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: drafting and editing content for public information materials such as press releases, newsletters, and social media posts; producing social media plans and campaigns to enhance digital outreach; creating multimedia materials including infographics, videos, and presentation templates; preparing professional PowerPoint presentations that highlight the Division's work; assisting in video production, including shooting and editing; organizing and executing the launch of publications and events; conducting background research for public information materials; and initiating and carrying out assigned tasks or special projects as needed. These responsibilities may be adapted to fit the intern's skills and interests.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, candidates must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent). Candidates should have a background in communications, public information, or public policy. While computer literacy in standard software applications and Adobe Creative Studio is desirable, it is not mandatory. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and the ability to interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds are essential. No prior work experience is required, but candidates should demonstrate skills that would benefit the United Nations during their internship.
Educational Background: Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as communications, public information, public policy, or a related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the context and requirements of the internship role, as well as for contributing effectively to the Division's objectives.
Experience: No prior work experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates should possess relevant skills and knowledge gained through their education, training, or coursework that would be beneficial to the United Nations during their internship. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines is desirable.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Chinese, or Russian, is considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively in English is essential for the intern to perform their duties and engage with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Thailand may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. The internship is full-time, requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week, and can last from a minimum of three months to a maximum of six months.
