Job Posting Organization: The internship is offered by the Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division (MPFD) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). ESCAP was established in 1947 and is one of the regional commissions of the United Nations. It aims to promote economic and social development in the Asia-Pacific region through various initiatives and programs. Job Overview: The Economic intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Affairs Intern position is designed for individuals who are interested in gaining practical experience in macroeconomic policy and financing for development. Interns will work under the guidance of the Section Chief and a responsible officer, contributing to the research work of the MPFD. The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 35 hours per week. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in two main areas: macroeconomic policy and analysis, and financing for development. The role involves conducting research, supporting capacity development activities, and assisting in the organization of workshops and meetings. Interns will be expected to produce analytical outputs that contribute to ESCAP publications and support the implementation of projects related to sustainable development goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will undertake a variety of tasks depending on their area of focus. In macroeconomic policy and analysis, they will conduct research on monetary and fiscal policy, tax cooperation, and public finance governance. They will identify risks to sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region and prepare analytical inputs for ESCAP publications. In the area of financing for development, interns will research sustainable financing instruments, support the implementation of demonstration projects, and assist in technical consultations and workshops. They will also prepare summary tables and graphs for publications and perform other related duties as assigned. The internship provides a comprehensive experience in both research and practical application of economic theories and policies.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, candidates must meet specific educational requirements. They should either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or be in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. Relevant fields of study include macroeconomics, international economics, development studies, political economy, applied econometrics, finance, and environmental studies. Candidates should demonstrate computer literacy, particularly in statistical software, and have a strong interest in the work of the United Nations.
