Job Overview: The Administrative Officer will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and implementation of the work programme related to compensation claims under Appendix 'D' of the Staff Rules. This role involves ensuring that financial resources are effectively utilized to settle approved claims concerning death, injury, disability, and loss of personal effects. The officer will monitor and review the work programme and budget estimates, ensuring that expenditures are accurately recorded in the Umoja system. A significant part of the role includes defining requirements for improved reporting systems, developing streamlined procedures for claims processing, and ensuring compliance with UN policies. The Administrative Officer will also supervise junior staff, provide guidance on financial administration, and lead efforts to enhance the efficiency of claims management. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in administration, finance, accounting, human resources management, law, or a related field. Experience in preparing concise briefing notes and presenting complex matters to senior management is required. Candidates should have experience in analyzing and interpreting complex cases and applying professional judgment to provide advice based on applicable policies. Familiarity with UN staff entitlements related to compensation claims is desirable, as is experience within the UN system or a comparable international organization.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, finance, accounting, law, or a related area is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields such as administration, finance, accounting, or human resources management. Candidates should have experience in preparing briefing notes and presenting complex matters to senior management, as well as analyzing and interpreting complex cases. Experience in the UN system or similar international organizations is considered an asset.
Languages: English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations, but there are no additional desirable languages specified for this role.
