Job Overview:
The Communications Associate position is crucial for the UNFPA Philippines Country Office, where the individual will play a significant role in planning and implementing advocacy, communication, resource mobilization, and program efforts. The role requires the application of established systems and procedures to compile, synthesize, and analyze information relevant to population dynamics, reproductive health, and gender issues.   • The position demands a proactive approach to enhancing visibility and engagement around UNFPA's mandate, ensuring quality messaging, and supporting the overall communication strategy of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Communications and Coordination: Support the development and implementation of the Country Office communication and advocacy strategy to enhance visibility and engagement around UNFPA’s mandate. Ensure quality and consistency of messaging and provide guidance to staff for effective communication. Contribute to planning, resource mobilization, and monitoring of communications activities.
  • Media and Public Relations: Monitor and analyze traditional and social media trends, maintain media contacts, and support the organization of press briefings, interviews, and events to highlight UNFPA’s work.
  • Content Creation and Digital Engagement: Draft and edit compelling stories, press materials, and digital content for various platforms. Coordinate the production of multimedia materials and manage online engagement, ensuring content is optimized and aligned with UNFPA guidelines.
  • Campaigns and Partnerships: Support the design and delivery of advocacy and communication campaigns, coordinating with partners, media, and other UN agencies to promote joint visibility and outreach efforts.
  • Data, Research, and Knowledge Management: Analyze communication and digital metrics to assess performance and inform planning. Support knowledge sharing and maintain digital assets, ensuring content accuracy and integrity.

Monitor and report on communication activities, results, and lessons learned.
  • Supervision and Capacity Support: Provide guidance and day-to-day supervision to junior staff or service providers and contribute to team learning and collaboration. Carry out any other duties as may be required by UNFPA leadership.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires completed secondary level education as a minimum, with a first-level university degree in communications or other relevant areas being desirable. Candidates should have at least 7 years of professional experience in communications and/or advocacy, with 2 years of relevant experience at the national level, including public relations. Experience in media relations, news reporting, editing, and social media management is essential. Familiarity with population issues, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-based violence is an asset. Proficiency in current office software applications and corporate IT systems is required, along with good knowledge of web-based management systems. Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is also advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary level education, with a first-level university degree in communications or other relevant fields being desirable. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and advocacy efforts in the context of UNFPA's mission.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in communications and/or advocacy, with at least 2 years of relevant experience at the national level. Candidates should have a proven track record in public relations, media relations, and the ability to draft compelling narratives and manage social media platforms effectively. Experience in handling media relations and familiarity with population issues and gender-based violence will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Filipino is required for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of other UN languages would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position with a fixed-term contract lasting one year initially. The role is non-rotational, and applicants must be UNFPA Philippines Country Office staff members on Permanent and Fixed Term Appointment to be eligible to apply.
