Job Description

The Office of the Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Agenda is part of the United Nations, which was established to promote international cooperation and to address global challenges. The organization focuses on sustainable development, particularly in financing strategies that align with the 2030 Agenda. The UN plays a critical role in facilitating and accelerating financing for sustainable development, with a mission to transform global financial systems and economic policies. The Special Envoy's office collaborates with various stakeholders, including international financial institutions and the private sector, to ensure collective action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Job Overview:
The Administrative Assistant will provide essential administrative support to the Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Agenda. This role is pivotal in coordinating the Special Envoy's activities, managing communications with various UN agencies and external partners, and ensuring the smooth execution of meetings and events. The position requires a proactive approach to organizing and preparing materials for high-level discussions, as well as maintaining organized records and handling routine office tasks. The Administrative Assistant will also be involved in data collection and analysis related to financing for sustainable development, contributing to reports that summarize findings and provide actionable recommendations. This role is integral to the success of the Special Envoy's mission to enhance sustainable financing strategies and investments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Act as the administrative focal point for the Special Envoy’s activities, coordinating his agenda and liaising with relevant UN agencies, missions, and external partners.
  • Support the planning and execution of preparatory meetings, roundtables, and high-level events by developing briefing materials, background reports, key messages, talking points, and speeches.
  • Manage meeting summaries, attendee tracking, reminders, thank-you emails, and follow-up actions.
  • Provide general office support, including responding to information requests, maintaining organized records, arranging meetings and workshops, and handling routine administrative tasks.
  • Collect, analyze, and evaluate data on financing for sustainable development, preparing reports that summarize findings, highlight key insights, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Undertake other duties as needed to support the Special Envoy’s objectives.

Required Qualifications:
A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in economics, finance, development, political science, or a related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree, as incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Knowledge of analytics tools such as PowerBI, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP Business Objects, Qlik, SQL, and R is required. Excellent presentation design skills using PowerPoint are essential, and knowledge of Adobe InDesign or Illustrator is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as economics, finance, development, or political science. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of financing for sustainable development and the broader context of the 2030 Agenda.

Experience:
No previous experience is required for this position, making it an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or individuals looking to enter the field of international development and finance. However, familiarity with analytics tools and presentation design is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable, which would enhance communication and collaboration within the UN system. Fluency is defined as a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas: speaking, reading, writing, and understanding. Knowledge of another language is defined as a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis, meaning that the incumbent must have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location, which is New York. The position is expected to last for 6 months.
