Job Overview:
The Electricity Technician position involves overseeing and performing small electrical repairs at the IOM sub-office in Farchana. The technician will be responsible for conducting daily check-ups of all electrical systems and appliances, ensuring the replacement of defective components such as bulbs, tube lights, and switches. The role requires a thorough inspection of electrical systems, including cleaning and maintaining panel junctions, tightening connections, and checking Main Circuit Breakers (MCBs). The technician must ensure that electrical loads are balanced across phases to prevent accidents during the installation of various electrical devices. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of generators and will assist in implementing electricity-related projects as needed. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing electrical issues, ensuring safety and efficiency in all operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct daily inspections of electrical systems and appliances to identify and address any issues.
  • Replace defective bulbs, tube lights, and other electrical components as necessary.
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical systems, including cleaning panel junctions and tightening connections.
  • Check and maintain Main Circuit Breakers (MCBs) to ensure proper functioning.
  • Monitor and balance electrical loads across phases to prevent overloads and accidents.
  • Repair or arrange for the repair of electronic and electrical items as needed.
  • Maintain and clean generators to ensure optimal performance.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive maintenance file for all electrical systems.
  • Assist in the implementation of electricity-related projects and provide support as required. 1
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance and repair is required. Experience working with UN agencies or NGOs is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of quality, safety, and environmental aspects related to electrical work. Additionally, candidates must have the ability to analyze and diagnose electrical issues, make accurate estimates, and work autonomously while maintaining high educational standards.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent qualification from an accredited university is required. Candidates must have graduated from institutions listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database to ensure the credibility of their educational background.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical maintenance and repair. Candidates should have experience working in a similar role, preferably within UN or NGO environments. Familiarity with quality, safety, and environmental standards in electrical work is essential. The ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively is also important.

Languages:
Fluency in French (oral and written) is mandatory for this position, as it is one of IOM's official languages. A working knowledge of Arabic is considered an asset. Proficiency in English and Spanish is also beneficial, as these are additional official languages of IOM. Language skills will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the required proficiency levels.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Chad will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, visa, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
