Job Overview:
The Senior Data Assistant for VAM (Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping) will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of data systems strategies aimed at automating data collection and sharing processes. This position is integral to the Research, Assessments, and Monitoring Unit (RAM) and will involve working closely with the VAM Officer to ensure that data visualization, mapping, infographics, and reporting are aligned with corporate methodologies. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently while also collaborating with various teams to enhance data coherence across different WFP databases. The Senior Data Assistant will be expected to contribute to decision-making processes by providing timely and accurate data insights, thus supporting WFP's mission to assist vulnerable populations effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the planning, design, and execution of prioritized evaluations by the country office.
  • Develop infographics and periodic updates for internal and external audiences to present static data visualizations.
  • Assist in drafting reports for communications, key messaging, and regular information exchange documents.
  • Support the programming of surveys in the ODK Collect system.
  • Manage databases, perform data cleaning, and conduct basic data analysis.
  • Facilitate data management activities to create Geographic Information Systems (GIS) products.
  • Maintain VAM data systems and improve links with other units and platforms to ensure consistency across WFP databases.
  • Help develop dashboards (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI) based on user requirements to share key internal data in real-time, including segmentation data for field offices.
  • Assist in developing web-based maps to present geographic and operational data. 1
  • Lead field missions for the VAM team as required. 1
  • Perform any other tasks within professional competence as necessary to support project objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include the completion of secondary education, with a desirable professional degree in economics, administration, industrial engineering, geographic information systems, or related fields. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills and be proficient in data management and visualization tools. Experience in training and presenting findings to both internal and external audiences is also essential. The ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and demonstrate a commitment to WFP's values is crucial.

Educational Background:
Candidates are expected to have completed secondary education, with a preference for those holding a professional degree in relevant fields such as economics, administration, industrial engineering, or geographic information systems. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of data analysis and visualization in the context of humanitarian assistance.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required, which should include managing databases, data cleaning, and basic data analysis. Candidates should have experience in data visualization and infographic development, as well as programming surveys and validating data quality. Experience in conducting training sessions for both internal and external stakeholders on data collection and related tools is highly valued. Field data collection experience is also a significant asset.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the team and with local stakeholders. Proficiency in English is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international colleagues and stakeholders, enhancing collaboration and information sharing.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. The contractual modality is a Service Contract (SC) at Level SC L
