Job Overview: The Observability Engineer position is a critical role within the Information Technology division of the EBRD, focusing on the design and optimization of advanced monitoring solutions across both hybrid and cloud-native environments. The engineer will be responsible for building scalable observability platforms that provide deep insights through metrics, logs, and distributed traces. This role requires a strong understanding of various monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Prometheus, Azure Monitor, and Grafana. The engineer will leverage their scripting skills and automation mindset to enhance the performance and reliability of the organization's digital infrastructure. The position emphasizes proactive monitoring and operational excellence, aiming to shape the digital nervous system of the enterprise. The ideal candidate will be fluent in observability concepts and passionate about system intelligence, ready to push the boundaries of performance in a collaborative environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Observability Engineer will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: designing, automating, and optimizing observability platforms for logging, metrics, and tracing; managing and implementing SolarWinds Observability and ManageEngine App Manager; utilizing open-source monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana; deploying and configuring monitoring and logging infrastructure using Terraform or Ansible; consolidating and analyzing application and system logs at an enterprise scale; integrating monitoring solutions with ITSM platforms; and ensuring a strong understanding of protocols and methods for data gathering. The engineer will also be responsible for troubleshooting application issues and performance monitoring, as well as maintaining knowledge of Azure monitoring services and container monitoring.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a solid understanding of software development principles and infrastructure management practices. They should have experience in designing, implementing, and supporting both commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and open-source monitoring solutions. An intermediate to advanced technology certification in the relevant specialization is required, along with an entry-level service management certification such as ITIL Foundation. The ideal candidate will also have a strong grasp of telemetry standards for interoperability and performance monitoring approaches.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Advanced degrees or specialized certifications in relevant areas will be considered an asset, as they demonstrate a commitment to professional development and expertise in the field.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a significant level of experience in observability engineering, with a strong background in monitoring solutions and system intelligence. Candidates should have hands-on experience with various monitoring tools and technologies, as well as a proven track record of successfully implementing and optimizing observability platforms in complex environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in the EBRD member countries, would be considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term contract position with a duration of three years. The role is expected to be full-time, with employees required to work in the office at least 50% of the time.
