Job Overview: The Vice President for Asia, Wildlife Conservation will provide strategic and operational leadership for wildlife and area-based conservation initiatives across Asia. This role is pivotal in creating large-scale conservation projects and mobilizing long-term financing to support these efforts. The Vice President will oversee the development of impactful projects and partnerships, ensuring alignment with WWF's broader goals and collaboration with various teams and external partners. The position requires a strong focus on biodiversity conservation, including species protection and recovery, conservation finance, and community-based conservation efforts. The Vice President will also represent WWF at key external events and advise senior leadership on relevant conservation issues and opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership for wildlife and area-based conservation in Asia, focusing on large-scale initiatives and long-term financing.
Oversee the development and implementation of projects and partnerships that impact biodiversity conservation.
Lead a team in designing and closing major blended finance deals for conservation area networks.
Define and measure the impact and results needed in biodiversity conservation, including protected areas and species recovery.
Represent WWF in external events and meetings, advocating for conservation priorities.
Advise senior leadership on conservation issues and opportunities.
Oversee planning, budgeting, reporting, and performance monitoring to maximize impact.
Lead conservation programs in the Eastern Himalayas and Greater Mekong, optimizing partner engagement and resource mobilization.
Develop multi-million-dollar funding packages, blending various funding streams. 1
Collaborate with conservation finance teams to create innovative financing models. 1
Stay informed on developments in regional and global conservation forums and contribute to cutting-edge thinking in the field.
A minimum of five years of senior management experience in developing and managing complex wildlife and natural resource projects in Asia for large international conservation organizations.
Proven experience in developing long-term conservation funding and partnerships with international organizations, governments, and stakeholders.
Required field experience in tiger conservation in Asia.
Ability to travel to Asia for project monitoring, approximately 15% of the time.
