Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that provides emergency aid to individuals affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion, and natural disasters. Established in 1971, MSF operates in over 70 countries worldwide, with a mission to deliver assistance based solely on need, without regard to race, religion, gender, or political affiliation. MSF International serves as the legal entity that unites MSF's 24 sections, 28 associations, and 19 branch offices, providing coordination, information, and support to the MSF Movement. Registered in Switzerland, MSF International also implements international projects and initiatives as required, ensuring that the organization remains responsive to the evolving needs of the populations it serves.

Job Overview:
The Author-Coordinator for Paediatric and Neonatal Guidelines plays a crucial role in ensuring that MSF's international paediatric and neonatal guidelines are current, scientifically sound, and reflective of the organization's medical decisions. This position is part of the International Guideline Publications (IGP) team, which has been responsible for developing and updating medical-operational guidelines for over 30 years. The guidelines are based on extensive practical experience from MSF programs, recommendations from the World Health Organization, and evidence from scientific literature. The successful candidate will coordinate updates, write revisions, and ensure that the guidelines are consistent with other MSF international guidelines, adapting them to the operational environment of MSF. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including the MSF Paediatric Intersectional platform and other leaders, to ensure that the guidelines meet the needs of the organization and the populations it serves.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Project Management: Develop and implement a continuous feedback collection plan from MSF Paediatric and Neonatal projects. Coordinate regular revisions of guidelines in collaboration with relevant working group members and the IGP editor, adjusting plans as new evidence emerges. Centralize documentation of feedback and revisions, ensuring all permissions for external illustrations are obtained and stored. Archive key documents and references for future inquiries.
  • Coordination: Facilitate communication with MSF and external experts, attending meetings to seek consensus on content. Ensure coherence with other international guidelines and disseminate findings from literature research to relevant stakeholders.
  • Writing Updates: Conduct literature searches and reviews to support guideline content with current scientific evidence. Write updates and new chapters, integrating feedback from experts and ensuring compliance with the “Guide of Guidelines.” Prepare discussion documents for unresolved topics and finalize texts based on feedback.
  • Tasks as IGP Paediatrician: Review and edit paediatric and neonatal sections of other guidelines, ensuring harmonization with existing guidelines.
  • Proactive IGP Team Member: Actively participate in meetings, contribute to the annual IGP action plan, and engage in budget forecasting and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in paediatrics or a related medical field, with a deep understanding of neonatal care. They should have excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise guidelines. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are essential. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders, both internally and externally.

Educational Background:
A medical degree in paediatrics or a related field is required. Additional qualifications in public health or global health would be advantageous. Candidates should have a strong understanding of medical guidelines and experience in guideline development or revision processes.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in paediatric care, with a focus on neonatal health. Experience in guideline development, project management, or working in humanitarian contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with MSF's operational environment and previous involvement in international health initiatives would be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in French and/or Spanish considered an asset. Knowledge of Arabic would also be advantageous, given the diverse contexts in which MSF operates.

Additional Notes:
This position is a permanent contract at 75% workload. The successful candidate will be offered a contract in the MSF office of their country of residence at the time of application. Compensation and benefits will align with the MSF entity establishing the contract. The starting date for this position is as soon as possible.
