Job Overview:
As an intern in the External Relations Department, you will play a crucial role in supporting ESA's international relations efforts. This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage with the Agency's international partners and contribute to the development of strategies that enhance ESA's global presence. Your responsibilities will include conducting research on geopolitical and geostrategic developments relevant to ESA, analyzing foreign policies, and assisting in the formulation of internal positions that align with ESA's missions. You will also support the organization of high-level meetings with international delegations, providing you with valuable insights into the workings of an intergovernmental organization at the forefront of the space sector. This position is ideal for those interested in international relations and the dynamics of global cooperation in space exploration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on geopolitical and geostrategic developments that impact ESA and the broader space sector.
  • Analyze foreign policy trends and their implications for ESA's international partnerships.
  • Assist in the formulation of internal positions and strategies related to ESA's missions and programs.
  • Support the organization and management of high-level meetings with international delegations.
  • Provide reports and updates on the activities of ESA's international partners.
  • Collaborate with various program directorates to ensure alignment of international relations strategies with ESA's objectives.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on international relations initiatives.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and partners to foster cooperation and collaboration.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably at the master's level, and must demonstrate that they will be enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good command of English or French is required, with knowledge of another ESA Member State language considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have a strong interest in international relations and the global space sector, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree in international relations, political science, or a related field. A master's level education is preferred, as it indicates a deeper understanding of the complexities of international relations and the geopolitical landscape.

Experience:
While prior experience in international relations or a related field is beneficial, it is not mandatory for this internship position. However, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the subject matter and a willingness to learn and contribute to the team's efforts.

Languages:
The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these languages is mandatory, while proficiency in another ESA Member State language is considered advantageous.

Additional Notes:
This internship is a full-time position based in Paris, France, and is open to nationals of specific European countries as well as applicants from Canada and certain European Cooperating States. The internship is expected to last for the duration of the academic semester, and candidates should be prepared to undergo selection tests as part of the recruitment process.
