Job Overview:
The Communications Analyst position is pivotal in implementing the corporate communications strategy of UNDP within the context of Sierra Leone. This role involves adapting global communication strategies to local needs, ensuring that the Country Office's development priorities are effectively communicated. The Communications Analyst will work closely with the Resident Representative and other senior officials to design and manage communication strategies that influence the development agenda, enhance public and media outreach, and mobilize support for UNDP's initiatives. The position requires a strategic thinker with a creative approach to communication, capable of producing high-quality content across various platforms to engage stakeholders effectively. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in internal and external communications, stakeholder engagement, and digital content production, with a focus on storytelling that resonates with diverse audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Analyst will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Developing and implementing internal and external communication strategies that align with UNDP's campaign initiatives to engage stakeholders such as government, donors, media, and the public.
  • Leading the execution of UNDP's campaigns and advocacy initiatives to raise public awareness about development priorities.
  • Supporting partnership visibility and resource mobilization through effective donor communications and advocacy campaigns.
  • Enhancing the country office's knowledge management and dissemination efforts to improve internal learning and visibility of development impacts.
  • Conducting communications needs assessments and drafting outreach strategies based on strategic priorities.
  • Creating compelling multimedia content, including videos, infographics, and reports, that adhere to UNDP's branding guidelines.
  • Managing social media accounts and developing content plans to increase engagement and visibility.
  • Coordinating stakeholder engagement events and ensuring effective communication with journalists and media outlets.
  • Maintaining a database of media contacts and managing publication activities in line with corporate guidelines. 1
  • Providing training and consultancy on knowledge management to UNDP staff.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, International Relations, Public Administration, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the aforementioned areas, combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience, will be considered. The role requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in communication, with a proven ability to create engaging multimedia content and manage social media platforms effectively. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in designing reporting materials and a strong understanding of international development issues.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master’s degree) in relevant fields such as Mass Communication, Journalism, or Public Relations. A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) may be acceptable if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. The emphasis is on candidates who have a strong academic foundation in communication and media studies, which is essential for the role's responsibilities.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a master’s degree, or 4 years for those with a bachelor’s degree. This experience should be at the national or international level in communication roles, demonstrating a proven ability to produce engaging multimedia content and manage social media strategies. Candidates should have hands-on experience in digital media production, including videography and graphic design, and a solid understanding of the UN system and international development issues.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in Krio, as a national language, is required. Proficiency in other languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
