Job Overview: The position of Extended Term Consultant (ETC) within the Poverty and Equity Global Practice at the World Bank Group is designed for individuals who are passionate about contributing to the analytical and operational programs aimed at addressing poverty and inequality in Brazil. The consultant will be a core member of the Poverty team, engaging in a variety of analytical tasks that involve the use of Brazilian microdata, including but not limited to PNAD-C and RAIS. The role requires a strong analytical background, as the consultant will conduct data management and analysis, combining various datasets to derive insights that inform policy decisions. The consultant will also be responsible for producing literature reviews, supporting the implementation of microsimulation tools for poverty projections, and disseminating findings through various formats such as research papers and presentations. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with government and external partners, contributing to the development of policies that aim to reduce poverty and enhance shared prosperity in Brazil.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Extended Term Consultant include: conducting analysis using Brazilian microdata and World Bank datasets; managing and analyzing data by combining various sources; producing literature reviews on relevant topics; supporting the implementation and maintenance of microsimulation tools for poverty projections; disseminating findings through research papers, policy notes, and presentations; developing strong working relationships with country management units and other Global Practices within the WBG; and contributing to the overall analytical agenda of the Poverty and Equity team. The consultant will also be expected to address distributional issues in their analyses and adapt methodologies to suit the specific context of Brazil's economic landscape.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Extended Term Consultant position must possess a Master’s degree in economics, statistics, or a related discipline, along with strong analytical and quantitative skills. A minimum of two years of relevant work experience is required, with a focus on poverty, inequality, and labor markets. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding analytical skills, particularly in econometrics and quantitative analysis of household surveys, including panel data. Proficiency in programming languages, particularly Stata, is essential, while knowledge of R is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to work effectively in a diverse and multicultural environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills are also necessary, as the consultant will need to present complex analyses to non-technical audiences.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in economics, statistics, or a related field. This advanced degree should provide the candidate with a solid foundation in analytical and quantitative methods, which are critical for conducting the type of analysis required in this role. The candidate's educational experience should also include coursework or training in econometrics, data analysis, and poverty measurement, equipping them with the necessary skills to contribute effectively to the Poverty and Equity Global Practice.
Experience: The position requires at least two years of relevant work experience in fields related to economics, statistics, or social research. Candidates should have experience in conducting quantitative analysis, particularly in the context of poverty and inequality. Familiarity with household surveys and the ability to analyze complex datasets are essential. Experience working in a multicultural environment and collaborating with diverse teams will be beneficial, as the consultant will be expected to engage with various stakeholders within the World Bank Group and external partners.
Languages: Full proficiency in both Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position, as the consultant will be working in Brazil and will need to communicate effectively with local stakeholders and team members. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, but it is not a requirement for this role.

The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the World Bank Group, subject to a lifetime maximum of three years for Extended Term appointments.
