Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The position is located in the UNODC Programme Office in Mali (POMLI), which operates under the Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROSEN) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The UNODC was established to assist Member States in their struggle against illicit drugs and international crime. Job Overview:
The Associate Project Officer will play a crucial role in promoting UNODC's initiatives against human trafficking and migrant smuggling in West and Central Africa. This position involves working closely with the Programme Coordinator and other stakeholders to implement the Regional Strategy against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants. The officer will be responsible for mobilizing resources, monitoring project development, and ensuring effective collaboration with national counterparts and civil society. The role requires significant travel, approximately 25%, to engage with various partners and stakeholders in the region. The officer will also conduct research, analyze data, and prepare reports to support decision-making and project implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform a variety of specific duties, including promoting UNODC's work against trafficking and smuggling, supporting the implementation of the Regional Strategy, and acting as the main focal point for the PROMIS project in Mali. Responsibilities include developing and evaluating project activities, liaising with national counterparts and civil society, conducting workshops, providing technical expertise, and preparing written outputs such as reports and publications. The officer will also undertake outreach activities, conduct training workshops, and represent UNODC in various meetings and conferences. Additionally, the role involves data collection and analysis to identify trends and support data-driven decision-making.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess in-depth knowledge and specialization in human trafficking and migrant smuggling, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The ability to interpret data and convey information effectively is essential. The officer should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and the ability to plan and organize work efficiently. A commitment to gender perspectives and equal participation is also required. The candidate should be motivated by professional concerns and show persistence in overcoming challenges.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, criminology, social science, international relations, political science, public administration, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in a similar field combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of relevant professional work experience in criminal justice, human rights, law, or a related field is required. Candidates should have progressively responsible experience dealing with trafficking in persons and/or smuggling of migrants. Familiarity with project formulation, implementation, and monitoring, as well as exposure to international development cooperation, is desirable. Experience working with the United Nations or similar international organizations is also preferred, along with experience in data analytics or related areas.

Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, proficiency in both English and French is required, with specific skill levels outlined in the UN Language Framework.
