Job Overview: In this part-time, maximum term position, you will be part of the Youth Diversion Team, which aims to support young people eligible for youth diversion as an alternative to court. This role involves working closely with young individuals in the Darwin, Palmerston, and Greater Darwin area, focusing on enhancing their social and emotional wellbeing, life skills, and educational attainment. You will engage in various activities designed to promote positive youth development and pro-social behavior, while also embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into the programs and services you deliver. The position requires a commitment to building trusting relationships with clients and their families, as well as actively participating in community events to promote the program's impact.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Youth Worker include:
Supporting activities aimed at increasing young people's social and emotional wellbeing, life skills, and educational attainment.
Facilitating group activities for young people to encourage engagement and participation.
Providing culturally responsive services by integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design, delivery, and evaluation.
Engaging young people in activities that promote safety, protection, and positive youth development.
Developing and maintaining trusting relationships with clients and their families to foster a supportive environment.
Actively participating in community events to enhance program visibility and reach.
Contributing to case management plans for participants and their families, ensuring that their needs are met effectively.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate skills and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, particularly those in contact with the justice system. Experience in youth work or case management roles is essential, along with an understanding of complex intergenerational trauma. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, as well as a commitment to child protection and the ability to respond safely and effectively to concerns. Additionally, sound time management and organizational skills are necessary to manage and plan one's workload effectively.
Educational Background: The position requires a relevant qualification in youth work, social work, or a related field. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of the issues faced by young people in the justice system and be equipped with the knowledge to provide effective support and intervention.
Experience: The role requires demonstrated experience in youth work or case management, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. Candidates should have a proven track record of working effectively in challenging environments and with vulnerable populations, showcasing their ability to navigate complex situations and provide appropriate support.
