Job Overview: The internship in the Transport Division's Transport Connectivity and Logistics Section is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in the field of international transport and logistics. This position is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment, with interns expected to work five days a week under the guidance of a staff member. The internship duration ranges from a minimum of 2 months to a maximum of 6 months, and it is primarily conducted online due to ongoing office renovations. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the UN's mission of promoting sustainable development through effective transport policies in the ESCAP region. The role involves qualitative analysis, report writing, data collection, and collaboration with experts in the field, providing a comprehensive learning experience in international transport issues.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks, including but not limited to: writing qualitative briefs and reports on international railway transport and related issues within the ESCAP region, evaluating the effectiveness of policies related to sustainable development; supporting the preparation of country reports by gathering information from credible sources; identifying and collecting data from primary and secondary sources, selecting appropriate methodologies for analysis; coordinating with Transport Division experts to pinpoint key issues; reviewing, analyzing, and compiling collected data to prepare comprehensive reports and briefs that include findings, conclusions, and relevant visual aids; synthesizing research findings and preparing presentations on the outcomes of the internship; and assisting with day-to-day operations of the Division as needed. Interns are expected to familiarize themselves with administrative tasks typical of UN organizations, enhancing their understanding of the operational environment.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be currently enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). No prior work experience is required, but candidates should possess skills and knowledge that would benefit the UN during their internship. Additionally, candidates who have completed more than four months of internship with other UN entities will not be considered unless they have enrolled in or completed a different degree program.
Educational Background: Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program. This educational background should ideally be in fields related to transport, logistics, international relations, or a similar discipline that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. The internship is an opportunity for students or recent graduates to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting, contributing to the UN's objectives while gaining valuable experience.
Experience: No prior work experience is required for this internship position.
