Job Overview: The United Nations Volunteer (UNV) for Digital Learning will play a crucial role in supporting the National Digital Learning Programme (PNAD) in São Tomé and Príncipe, which is backed by UNICEF. This program integrates digital educational resources with the national curriculum to enhance learning outcomes and promote digital inclusion among children and adolescents. The UNV will work under the direct supervision of the Education Specialist, contributing to the implementation of various educational initiatives, particularly those focused on digital learning. The position requires a proactive approach to capacity building, community engagement, and increasing the visibility of educational actions. The UNV will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of training sessions, collaborating with teachers to create digital content, monitoring the use of digital tools in schools, and producing communication materials to showcase the program's impact.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UNV will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Capacity Building: Supporting the Digital Education Lab in training teachers and local technicians, conducting capacity-building sessions with young volunteers, and monitoring the integration of digital learning into pedagogical planning.
Content Creation and Technical Support: Collaborating with educators to create digital content, curating educational materials on the learning platform, and developing strategies to enhance accessibility for all children.
Monitoring, Data, and Reporting: Conducting monitoring visits to schools, collecting data, preparing progress reports, and documenting actions through various media.
Visibility and Communication: Updating social media channels, producing digital content for advocacy, and raising awareness about digital platforms within the educational community.
Cross-Cutting Support and Coordination: Providing logistical support for events, acting as a point of contact for technical issues, and producing analytical reports based on platform data.
Supporting the Education Program: Collaborating with local authorities and partners to ensure alignment with national policies and promote equitable access to quality education.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, particularly in promoting children's rights and equity. Technical proficiency in digital learning tools and educational technologies is essential, along with experience in capacity building and community engagement. The ability to analyze data and produce reports is also required, as is familiarity with social media and communication strategies.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, information technology, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in digital education or instructional design would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the educational landscape in São Tomé and Príncipe and be familiar with the national curriculum.
Experience: The position requires prior experience in educational settings, particularly in roles related to digital learning, capacity building, or community engagement. Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the official language of São Tomé and Príncipe. Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is full-time and may involve travel to various schools and communities within São Tomé and Príncipe. The UN Volunteer will be part of the malicious insurance plan and will receive support from UNICEF in terms of training and professional development opportunities.
