Job Overview:
The Scripting and Data Processing Consultant role is designed to enhance the capacity of the Audience and Market Insights (AMI) unit at UNICEF. This position focuses on conducting effective quantitative research by utilizing self-serve quantitative survey scripting platforms. The consultant will be responsible for scripting surveys, coordinating translations, managing survey fielding with panel vendors, ensuring data quality control, and performing basic data processing tasks such as weighting and tabulations. The consultant will work under the supervision of the High-Value Insights Manager and will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF’s flagship and ad hoc research projects, enabling evidence-based strategic decision-making. The consultant will also be expected to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency in survey deployment and data management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Programming and scripting surveys using UNICEF's self-serve quantitative survey scripting platform tools.
  • Liaising with local markets or agencies to coordinate the translation of questionnaires, ensuring accurate implementation in the tool.
  • Conducting thorough link checks to verify functionality, routing, translations, and survey logic prior to launch.
  • Coordinating with panel vendors to manage fieldwork, monitor progress, and ensure timely data delivery.
  • Conducting rigorous data quality checks to identify and flag poor-quality data.
  • Running data processing tasks, including weighting, creation of nets, and preparation of summary tables in Excel or other tools.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of technical setups, survey versions, and data cleaning decisions. The consultant will also be responsible for programming and managing various surveys, including the Global Brand Barometer and the High-Value Audience Brand Tracker, and will provide end-to-end technical support for ad hoc quantitative research projects.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher) in fields such as cultural studies, communications, psychology, marketing, political studies, development studies, statistics, data science, or a related area. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in survey programming and technical research support, with familiarity in using Qualtrics. Expertise in scripting complex surveys, managing translations, and liaising with fieldwork vendors is essential. Strong skills in data quality control and processing, including weighting and tabulations, are required, along with proficiency in Excel and familiarity with data cleaning workflows. Experience with advanced statistical analytics and data science is considered an asset. Excellent communication skills in English are mandatory, and candidates should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher) in relevant fields such as cultural studies, communications, psychology, marketing, political studies, development studies, statistics, data science, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to perform the job effectively.

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of two years of hands-on experience in survey programming and technical research support. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in scripting complex surveys, managing translations, and liaising with fieldwork vendors. Experience in data quality control and processing, as well as familiarity with advanced statistical analytics and data science, is highly desirable. This level of experience is crucial for ensuring that the consultant can effectively manage the responsibilities associated with the position and contribute to UNICEF's research initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role. Proficiency in multiple languages can facilitate better communication and collaboration within UNICEF's diverse international environment.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy contract will last from December 1, 2025, to November 30, 2026, with monthly deliverables expected throughout this period. Payment will be processed at the end of each month upon acceptance of the deliverables by the supervisor. Candidates are required to indicate their all-inclusive fees in their cover letter. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if the deliverables do not meet the required standards or if there are delays in submission. Selected candidates will not be considered staff members and will not be entitled to benefits provided to staff under UNICEF's policies. They are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and ensuring that their visa and health insurance are valid for the duration of the contract.
