Job Overview: The Senior engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Project Engineer position is situated within the HQ Building Renovation Project office of the ILO, which is tasked with overseeing the renovation of the ILO Office in Geneva. This role is critical as it involves the planning and execution of design and construction tasks that align with the established project scope and budget. The Senior Project Engineer will ensure that the renovation project is executed efficiently while maintaining business continuity for ILO operations throughout the construction phase. The individual will report directly to the Project Director and will be responsible for coordinating various design and construction matters, ensuring compliance with safety codes and regulations, and managing the multidisciplinary activities involved in the project. This position is temporary and funded for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension based on budgetary approval.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate all design and construction matters between key project stakeholders and design consultants, focusing on crucial building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components to ensure a safe and compliant environment.
Establish and monitor design requirements in alignment with the project implementation plan and objectives.
Manage design deliverables to meet quality standards, including environmental compliance.
Oversee project cost plans to ensure compliance with budgetary constraints.
Ensure adherence to project schedules and key milestones.
Facilitate the distribution of information and documentation among all relevant parties, ensuring timely communication.
Provide expert technical advice on policies, procedures, and guidelines related to construction standards.
Organize and manage meetings related to design activities, including value management and engineering workshops.
Review project samples from design activities and provide recommendations to the Project Manager. 1
Offer technical and strategic solutions to complex design-related problems. 1
Coordinate the project team to validate design changes and ensure proposed solutions are approved per project management guidelines. 1
Analyze budget proposals to ensure adequacy for engineering requirements and provide data for audits. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced level university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in building engineering or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in a relevant field, combined with an additional two years of relevant experience, will be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Professional certification or membership in chartered institutes is desirable, indicating a recognized level of expertise in the field.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced level university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in building engineering or a related field. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) may be accepted if accompanied by additional relevant experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of building systems and project management.
Experience: The position requires at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in managing complex refurbishment or construction projects, particularly in large office facilities. Experience as a project or works engineering manager in construction or renovation projects is highly desirable, indicating a strong background in overseeing significant engineering tasks and project execution.
Languages: Candidates must have an excellent command of French and a working knowledge of English. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication within the multicultural environment of the ILO and for engaging with various stakeholders involved in the project.
