Job Overview:
The Protection Officer (PSS) role is crucial for the effective provision of psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support activities in the Al Turbah districts. Reporting to the Protection Team Leader, the officer is responsible for creating activity schedules, reviewing PSS plans, and providing technical support to facilitators. The role also involves direct implementation of PSS activities and managing community centers. The officer will engage with community members to raise awareness about available services and ensure that activities are tailored to meet the needs of the community. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying new areas for intervention and ensuring that all activities adhere to established standards and protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Officer will oversee the implementation of recreational and psychosocial support activities for various age groups at community centers and IDP sites. Responsibilities include conducting information sharing sessions, providing technical support to the PSS team, monitoring the use of materials, and leading the organization of activities. The officer will also manage administrative tasks related to center operations, conduct focus group discussions for feedback, and collaborate with other sectors and NGOs to ensure a coordinated response. Additionally, the officer will be responsible for producing reports, maintaining databases, and engaging with community leaders to support DRC activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience in protection services or relevant humanitarian action, with a minimum of 1 year overseeing PSS activities. Strong communication skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and effective organizational skills are essential. The candidate should demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and the ability to work under pressure while managing multiple tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required, along with a commitment to humanitarian principles and respect for diverse communities.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a closely related field is essential. Proven field experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of psychosocial support and the needs of displaced individuals.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in protection services or humanitarian action, with at least 1 year specifically focused on implementing or overseeing psychosocial support activities. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to provide technical support and training to team members, as well as experience in managing community-based programs.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, while advanced proficiency in English is also required. These language skills are essential for effective communication with beneficiaries and stakeholders, ensuring that services are delivered appropriately and that feedback is gathered effectively.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is set to last until December 31, 2026, and it falls within the Management (H2) band. The role reports directly to the Protection Team Leader and is expected to start as soon as possible.
